About this assignment

Practical and reliable couple (preferred) who will look after our home and pets with care, and enjoy their stay in peaceful surroundings. The house is a lovely reformed cortijo with pool, 4Km from nearest village, 8Km from beautiful Montefrio, 40 minutes to Granada and 1 hour 15 minutes to Malaga.

Our current travel plans are not yet fixed so some flexibility is possible with dates.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We are looking for sitters who will provide day to day pet care for our dog and 3 cats, feeding, providing water, and walking our dog. Also to water plants and keep house tidy and clean. Pool maintenance will be required if you want to use the pool during your stay. Note the pool is not heated so cold in winter.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our home is a fully reformed cortijo. It has a modern kitchen with all usual kitchen equipment including American style fridge freezer, dish washer, gas hob and 2 ovens. We have excellent wifi and mobile phone reception. There is a pool with a spacious terrace around it with sun loungers and views to the Sierra Nevada. There are two large terraces at the house, one well shaded for those hot days, and a roof terrace with summer kitchen and bar for alfresco dining and enjoying the night skys.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The house is in an olive grove and so in a remote location. A driving licence and own transport is required.

Water is from storage tanks and from wells, so some “water management” may be required by using the pumps to ensure a continued supply to the house and pool. This is not tricky, and full details will be provided.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Exceptional Hosts and a Truly Special Home in Spain

We had the absolute pleasure of house sitting for Rich and Katie over Christmas this year, and it was once again a truly wonderful experience. They live in a charming, beautifully renovated cortijo nestled in an olive grove near Montefrío, Spain. The home is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully cared for, with breathtaking views of rolling olive groves and the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas in the distance. This was the third time we’ve looked after their home, and Rich and Katie continue to be exceptional hosts and communicators. They are incredibly organized, thoughtful, and always make sure we have everything we need. They even check ahead of time to see what groceries they can pick up for us, which is so appreciated. They welcomed our two sons with open arms and went above and beyond to make the holidays magical for them—complete with wrapped Christmas presents and even a piñata waiting to be enjoyed. Their kindness and attention to detail truly made this one of our most memorable holiday stays. We also deeply appreciated their flexibility and generosity in welcoming my husband’s sister, who was visiting from the U.S., into their home this year. Caring for their pets is a joy. Daniel the Spaniel, their sweet rescue dog, is a loyal and loving companion who enjoys a good walk. Their three rescue cats—Ozzie, Jet, and Spike—each have delightful personalities and are friendly, affectionate, and easy to care for. We truly can’t imagine a better place to spend the holidays and feel so grateful for Rich and Katie’s trust and generosity. We wholeheartedly recommend house sitting for them. They are lovely people, wonderful communicators, and live in an absolutely incredible part of Spain.

A Dream House-Sit in the Heart of Andalusia

Rich and Katie are truly a joy to house sit for—they think of absolutely everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Their stunning cortijo, set on an olive grove near the National Geographic–featured town of Montefrío, Spain, is a dream. They’ve always been so welcoming to our family, especially our two sons, and have excellent communication. This summer, they even surprised the boys with water toys for the pool and gave them a fun chore checklist to help them feel involved. We’ve fallen in love with their four cats and their gentle dog, Daniel the Spaniel. Daniel adores his walks, and the surrounding countryside offers endless scenic routes for hiking. He’s just as happy to hop in the car and join in on family adventures. Some of our most treasured memories in Spain have been made at Rich and Katie’s home. From spectacular sunsets on their patio to peaceful days exploring the olive groves, every visit leaves us feeling grateful for the time we’ve spent there. We feel incredibly fortunate to return whenever we can.

Magical Experience

Staying at Rich and Katie's home was an absolute dream! Their remodeled Cortijo home is warm and cozy. The view of the olive groves and Sierra Nevada Mountain range from their terrace is spectacular. Daniel the Spaniel is a gentle, loving dog with a sweet disposition. He loves long walks and enjoys being around people. Rich and Katie's rescue cats are all lovely. Spike is fluffy and loves to be brushed. Jet is a cute kitten who has lots of spunk. Ozzy is a silly cat that likes to play. Schrodinger is gentle and cuddly. Rich and Katie spent an afternoon showing me the ropes before they left, so we'd feel comfortable managing their home and pets. They are incredibly organized, very gracious, and have excellent communication. This was an incredible experience for our family. Highly recommend. ~Jen, Barrett, & Family
