Artist's Cottage in the Woods

About this assignment

My husband built this unique cottage 25-years ago, and you won't find another one like it! If you love solitude and nature, this is the place for you. If you love gardening and animal husbandry, you can do that, too! This is a short term furnished rental. We are looking for a 6 month commitment beginning Oct. 31 2026. Inquiries that can work within this time frame are welcome. Please send us a message of introduction, letting us know your qualifications as a tenant.

A few stairs up take you onto a glass enclosed front porch which unfolds into a bakery that opens onto a cozy kitchen. The dining room seats six comfortably with an open floor plan including a seating area around the wood stove, There is a sleeping loft that is super cozy in the winter. All three bathrooms feature Mexican tile showers and one bathtub. Master bedroom, music room/bedroom, and sleeping loft all host full-size beds. Yoga room/sauna is lined with cedar, beautifully serene and slightly detached from main house accessible through enclosed passage. Furnished.
exceed $250 per month from DEC-FEB. We will also be asking for a signed agreement and security deposit.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Winter duties include snow removal, using provided plows and skid-steer, pest control, maintenance and housekeeping, The driveway is about 100' long and will need to be kept clear. Sitters will pay for their own utilities (electric, propane and wifi). Lots of firewood dried, split and stacked (can be bought at cost) for the wood stove.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house features a wood-fired brick oven, bakery, yoga room, sleeping loft, exercise equipment, internet, wood stove, greenhouse, hoop-house (winter gardening), music room, three full bathrooms, propane generator, radiator heat and the usual amenities.  No AC.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

House sitters need to be able bodied, cheerful with solitude, and not afraid of cold weather. This a great opportunity for a creative person to dig into a project without interruption. It can get cold here and weather needs to be considered daily. The house is at the end of a dirt road that is plowed by the town, but it is 30 minutes to a town with healthcare and groceries.
