About this assignment
We are looking for a single person or couple (non-smoking) to stay in our house and care for our two mature cats for approximately seven days this coming March- the 19th -25th, 2026.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Primarily caring for the cats and watering interior plants and possibly greenhouse and some outdoor plants. The cats are indoor only- litter boxes will need to be cleaned each day, cats are to be fed twice each day and regularly brushed. Mario- the orange one- requires medication twice daily.
What are the good features of the property and location
We are walking distance to Kinsale (8 minute walk)- a lovely harbor town in the southwest of Ireland. Our house is a bungalow on a cul-de-sac in a friendly housing estate. We have a large garden surrounding the house, a greenhouse and a veranda at the rear.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
August/Sept. can be a beautiful time to visit Ireland. Although usually cool and wet, there are normally more dry days in August and September than earlier in the year. There will be plenty to do in and around Kinsale. Our garden and greenhouse will be in full bloom. In August/Sept., the greenhouse and outdoor potted plants will need attention to watering. The house has under-floor heating and will be warm and cosy.

Kathleen & Ernest Mario😻 & Moira😻 in de heerlijke bungalow in prachtig Kingsale Ierland, blijft voor ons onvergetelijk.
Op het vliegveld van Cork, werden wij opgewacht door Kathleen & Ernest. Na een warm welkom, reden ons naar Kingsley. Daar staat hun prachtige bungalow met verrassende tuin rondom. Deze is in allerlei verschillende kleuren en plantensoorten opgedeeld. Ook de groentekas was erg fijn. Wat klaar was voor consumptie mocht geplukt of gesneden worden. Ernest en Kathleen hebben ons rondgeleid in hun huis en natuurlijk kennis gemaakt met hun 2 schatten van katten. Ook de belangrijke plekjes in het stadje hebben ze ons laten zien en over verteld. Wij waren enorm verrast over de schoonheid van deze plek met haven en zijn vele pubs/ gekleurde huizen en genoeg wandelroutes. Met zijn vieren genoten wij van een een heerlijke lunch. Aangeboden door Kathleen en Ernest. 'S,avonds werd door beide een lekker diner bereid. Met o.a een gemixte salade van meerdere slasoorten en wilde spinazie uit de groentekas. Ruime slaapkamer met fijn bed en eigen badkamer. Alles nieuw en erg netjes. Elke ochtend leuk om de wilde vogels in de tuin te voorzien van een volle voersilo. De medicijnen die kat Mario nodig heeft, gaven geen enkel probleem met toedienen. De 2 lieverds waren direct erg aanhankelijk. Moira vraagt op haar manier of je gaat zitten op de bank of stoel, dan kan zij lekker op schoot. Wil zo graag geknuffeld en ook gekamt worden. Voor Mario is dit ook zo fijn hij liep zelf langs de kam als je hem voor hem hield. Hij werd liever geknuffeld terwijl hij op de bankleuning zat. Wij hebben deze oppasperiode superfijn beleefd. Het was moeilijk afscheid nemen van deze 2 lieverds. Wij zijn Ernest en Kathleen, enorm dankbaar voor hun vertrouwen in ons en hebben het enorm naar ons zin gehad in prachtig mooi Kingsale in Ierland

Wonderful stay in beautiful Kinsale with Moira and Mario
I've spent almost 3 weeks in the home of Kathleen and Ernest with wonderful Moira and Mario, siblings that could not be more different :) Both cats are very easy and affectionate, though Mario needs a little more time to warm up to new person. Both are also very low maintenance. The house is spacious, very comfortable and conveniently situated, not in dead centre of the town, but within a short walk. Kinsale is a gorgeous town with great transportation options to Cork and nearby towns. Kathleen and Ernest prepared a detailed "Guest book" not only with everything I needed to know to make my stay comfortable both for cats and me, but also with comprehensive information about everything that there is to see in Kinsale and the area. I highly recommend the stay for everyone who wants to taste Ireland in comfortable conditions and great feline company!

A wonderful week in Kinsale
Kathleen and Ernest made us very welcome in their lovely comfortable home. We enjoyed the company of Moira and Mario, such gentle cats. They were slow to trust us but then Moira happily curled up on our knees by day 2. Mario liked his stroking and attention. Both cats enjoyed being groomed. Minding them was a pleasure and very straightforward. Watering the plants and greenhouse was no hardship. Those tomatoes were a sight to behold. Kinsale is a lovely town with a beautiful setting. When sightseeing around the town we walked everywhere. The two forts are incredible and the other town walks were most enjoyable. In between exploring the local area we drove along the coast to some fabulous beaches and through beautiful scenery. The food was excellent and the pubs very enjoyable. All in all it was a week that flew in. Thank you so much Kathleen and Ernest.
