Dexter has a pill a day hidden in his food. Minnie needs occasional meds, 3 cats need to come in at night.
We are looking for a pet/house sit for a week in September, around the 10th to 20th September.
You will be a non-smoking couple. Ideally, you are not a strict vegan or vegetarian, as feeding pets is an essential part of this pet sit, who love dogs and cats. We live in rural Spain, an hour north of Malaga, in a rustic home in the foothills of Sierra del Torcal.
Ideally, you will be someone who loves the countryside, peace and tranquility, rather than someone who wants to travel a lot around the area, and who will enjoy our very comfortable home on the edge of a beautiful nature reserve.
IMPORTANT: We need a couple who are happy to take our dog out with them if they decide to go out. If you are intending to sightsee, please don't apply because this is important. Dexter goes everywhere with us and is now in his golden years (12 years) and can't be left alone at home. The cats are more than happy to stay home and lie in the sun :)
We have a new kitchen and a new conservatory and a pool - not that you will use it in December. We have a log fire in the sitting room, plus heaters and radiators throughout the house. We have several outdoor sitting areas, both in the shade under patios and on sunny terraces. In December the temperatures will be lovely and hover around 20 degrees, with bright skies and the possibility of rain - requiring only light jumpers and tracksuits - heavy clothing is not required.
USE OF CAR: We normally offer our car to pet sitters, but on this occasion, we are using it to drive to Portugal, so you will need a car. This sit is therefore ideal for any sitters living in Spain, France or Portugal and within easy driving distance for them to use their own car.
Feeding our cats and dog: Six to feed and love plus 1 lovable and loyal dog.
Taking our dog for a daily walk (without a lead) around the local countryside tracks.
Light watering of our pot plants (no need to water our garden as that is all irrigated on timers at night).
Our previous house sitters and pet sitters have said they loved looking after our home and pets. Our last pet sitters looked after our pets with utmost care because they could see how much we love our pets (our fur babies) and they loved the peace and tranquillity of our home. For the past few years, we have had repeat pet sitters coming back year after year, but on this occasion they are travelling across the far-flung corners of the world and are not available.
Regarding the note above about being vegan or vegetarian, we only say this because in the past we have had some pet sitters who did not want to feed the pets inside because of the smell of pet food. If they are fed outside, ants will get into their food bowls, and then the pets can't eat their food. We have had some vegan and vegetarian pet sitters who were most understanding and feed the pets inside and didn't bother about the smell of the pet food. This is ideal because our pets are important to us, and we want them to stick to their usual routine of where and when they eat.
Tranquillity and peace are what all our guests boast about when visiting our home. We have a stunning view of rolling valleys and fields with a beautiful, colourful garden. The only sounds you will hear are birds tweeting and the occasional cowbell around some distant horse's neck. If you love peace and solitude and want a holiday to rest and revive and give lots of love to a group of sweet-natured paws, you've come to the right place.
WI-FI: Although we are in the countryside, we have excellent Wi-Fi you can use. We run two online businesses, and we have set up our internet to work online at all times, so our internet is always on and available.
LOCAL SHOPS: We are directly between two small Spanish towns, and they both have supermarkets, butchers, and other small shops. They are each about fifteen minutes from us and have very good local supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, and small bars/restaurants.
Dexter goes everywhere with us, so any potential pet sitters will need to take him with them if they want to go out. He cannot stay at home because he is not used to that and will get very distressed if left on his own. He is a very loyal pooch and loves meeting people.
Dexter immediately makes friends with our sitters with a cuddle, and they love him sitting beside them with his head in their laps. He's a soppy boy!
He is also very well-behaved when out as he is used to going everywhere with us, including the hairdresser, restaurants, hotel patios, and even for a walk on the beach when he is allowed out of season. He will happily slump down under the restaurant table and sleep while you enjoy your meal.
SUITED TO A COUPLE: With this in mind, the pet sit is not suited to a single person because Dexter can't stay in the car alone. There are also different tasks to be done, like walking Dexter in the morning, feeding the cats, and watering the pots. Normally, one does the walking while the other does the cats and watering. In September, watering is needed every few days if the weather is still very warm, which it most likely will be. Evening tasks are to get three of the cats inside, give Dexter a quick last wee-walk, so again a couple is ideal. We have a couple of sitters who have been doing our sits repeatedly for years, and they know the routine, so this is a walk in the park for them to do as a single.
No, sorry.

Peace and Tranquility in Southern Spain with REALLY adorable pets to keep you company !!
Simon and I spent the month of December at Paula and Ken's lovely countryside home and loved every minute of our time there. Paula and Ken greeted us at the Malaga airport (with lovely Dexter stealing the show) and immediately we fell into constant chatter with each other! Ken and Paula are such friendly and positive people - they both made certain that our time in their home was going to be special (and it was). They were such welcoming hosts, making us delicious meals, and we chatted away the evenings in their cozy conservatory overlooking their beautiful garden and the nearby fields and rolling hills. The VIEW is gorgeous. It was really nice to sit in their quiet garden and listen to the birds. The home is very rural, but the food supermarket/pharmacy/etc are only 15 minutes away by car. Dexter was a great companion, who is so happy to be hanging out with you. Dexter was no problem on any of our "excursions out " - for hikes at El Torcal Park, for a walk on the beach or around the Alcazaba in Antequera - Dexter was well behaved. We both enjoyed our daily walks with him, too, on the private tracks that surround their " little slice of paradise". The 6 cats were such characters, and we fell in love with all of them ! From Freida The Huntress bringing home a feathered friend or two, to Mr. Toes (eventually) warming up to us enough to come inside at night, to Miss Minnie skillfully playing with The String and Stripey Toy, and of course, we can't forget Sooty (BearCub), (Timid)Tortelini, and (Big Boy) Bro ! Caring for all of them was a delight and was easy ... what was difficult was leaving them all behind!! We will miss this crew, so we would jump at the chance to go back for a reunion! This is a great housesit if you like a tranquil country setting with very lovable critters to bring a smile to your heart everyday ! Thank you Ken and Paula, for everything. Hope to see you all again soon !

Excellent house/pet sit
Paula and Ken firstly thank you both for your warm hospitality, collecting us from the train station and dropping us off at the bus station .The loan of your car was appreciated Absolutely a wonder house/pet sit . Mr Dexter is a truly beautiful & loving 10 year old English Springer. You can immediately see he has been loved all his life by Paula and Ken . Mr Dexter needs are little his two daily walks ( which we enjoyed ) through a beautiful country side and a quick over the road night pee . Future house sitters need to ensure he is always with you He is so well behaved in streets, cafes & restaurants . He is safely secured in the car in his harness for all outings which he loves .Fed twice a day morning and evenings was no problem. Additionally 5 super "personality plus" cats were part of the house sit , very easy to care for. They are clearly part of the family. Paula and Ken went to great lengths to ensure all dog and cat food was in the pantry, very well stocked.Future house sitters will be very fortunate to be able to enjoy wonderful animals, a comfortable home and a beautiful semi rural location. Thank you again Paula & Ken Leonie & Jeff - Portugal
