About this assignment

Someone who loves dogs, cats and morning walks. Who is kind and calm as both our pets are rescues and are now used to a quiet life. Someone who will spend time with them both, and give them affection as they are very used to this. Particularly the cat who craves human contact. Someone who enjoys village life - we have everything you need within walking distance.
Our dog is ok on his own for up to 6 hours, he is old and sleeps a lot but his regular mealtimes are 7/8am, and 4/5pm. So between these times he is ok on his own, and after 5pm until bedtime.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Looking after Blazey (dog) - feeding morning and evening, and taking him for two moderate walks a day - the first in the morning before 10am, and a shorter evening walk around 5pm.
Looking after Stewie (cat); feeding morning and evening, giving cuddles and keeping the litter tray clean.
Daily watering of plants - I don't have many.
Looking after the house as you would your own.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is in a village with lots of amenities within walking distance; pubs, restaurants, shops, supermarkets, coffee shop, vet, fish and chip shop, hair salon, barbers, beauty salon. Also some lovely walks in nature through woodland or open fields.
You will have a double room with ensuite, use of the fully equipped kitchen, lounge/dining room etc. In fact the entire house except for 2 bedrooms. The house is warm and cosy, parking is available in the car park or outside the house.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Transport: Getting here is fairly easy, East Midlands airport is around 20 minutes away by car and we can pick you up. The house is on a main bus route with the bus stop a minute walk away. Buses go to Derby City Centre, or the nearest railway station (Hatton and Tutbury Train Station) which is a 7 minute drive.
Everything you need for daily living is on the doorstep. It is a lovely area to live in.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

I kept Rachel's cat, Stewart, for almost a month in January 2024 and really enjoyed the experience. Rachel is a wonderful host - very warm and friendly - and she was kind enough to pick me up from the bus station and also drive me to the Airbnb I rented after my stay in her home. The house itself was very clean and quite cozy, and it contained everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The rooftop terrace was especially nice and has an amazing view of the village and surrounding hills. As for Stewart, he is a cat full of personality with a lot to say. He's very sweet and snuggly, and we spent many an hour together on the sofa with him sleeping on my lap. He was a great companion who provided lots of entertainment, and I will always remember him fondly. Blaze stayed with friends while Rachel was away, so I didn't spend much time with him, but he was a very sweet and calm dog whom I liked a lot. This was my first pet sitting job through Mind My House, and I recommend sitting for Rachel without hesitation!

We were delighted when Rachel invited us to house and cat sit for her in Paderne, a small village in Portugal, for one month, which was a great experience. Rachel picked us up at Faro airport and took us to her home to meet Stewie, the cat, who was a delight to care for. He is very vocal and loves to chat and sit on your lap and be stroked. The house is on three levels and is very nicely furnished. On the third level there is a terrace with views over the surrounding countryside. Rachel showed us around the village which has several supermarkets and vegetable stores from which we were able to buy all the food we needed. There are also several restaurants and cafes in the village. The bus service which will take you to the coast is good and there are some very interesting hikes to old Roman ruins. Rachel was a very good host and answered any questions we had promptly. She is also a very interesting person having lived in some unusual places around the world. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of living in a small Portuguese village and would have no hesitation in recommending this house and cat sit to anyone who is looking for an interesting house sit.
