About this assignment

I am looking for a reliable, responsible single, mature person or a couple who will treat my animals and my home like their own, to care for my 2 dogs, Hilda (Hilly) a 1 year old podenco and Reggie a 11 year old English Cocker Spaniel, 8 cats and 2 pet pigs, Papaya and Mango.

If you like nature, peace and quiet, this would be a perfect place for you.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feed dogs morning and early evening, ensure the water bowls are filled.

Reggie has 1 YuMove supplement tablet every morning.

Dog biscuits in the morning with one frankfurter cut into small pieces. Hilly is a growing puppy, will always eat the biscuits in the morning, and biscuits and tin meat in the evening, half a tin each. Please don't over fill the bowl.

2 frankfurters around 8pm as a treat.

Reggie needs time to get to know you, give him space for the first few days, he will come you in his own time. He loves to play with his balls. He isn't a cuddly dog, again, he will come to you in his own time.

I adopted Hilly in July 2025 and recently discovered the she has limited vision, cataratas in both eyes, which is hereditary. She can see, and it doesn't stop her enjoying life.

She has had numerous visits to my vet and an eye specialist in Valencia, her vision may remain the same or deteriorate over time.

Hilly is a lovely girl, energic, full of life, she may be slightly reserved when she first meets you, it may take a few days for her to become comfortable with you. She lives to play, chase balls, is a normal, crazy puppy.

I have a large fenced area. Because of her vision she is only allowed in this area. She responds best to the sound of a squeaky ball, will come when called but her training is on going.

She is very food orientated, loves treats. Please tell her sit and wait when feeding her.

Her training is on going, you may need to be firm with her.

The cats have access to the house via a cat flap, come and go as they please. The cats all eat from one bowl, please refill when empty.

The pigs are fed in the morning and again in the evening. A mix of pig pellets and mixed grains. Their food is stored in the garage in large black dustbins.

In the morning they have one cup of feed each, mixed with a small amount of water.

In the evening they have a selection of diced vegetables each, mixed with a small amount of water.

An apple or banana each around lunchtime.

Their water bowl needs to be checked and filled in the morning and again in the evening.

Top up their water hole every morning wth the hosepipe.

They have a small fenced and gated enclosure, inside the large fenced and gated enclosure.

They spend the day in the large enclosure, with access to their house and water. At night they must be shut into their small enclosure. You will need to give them a apple or banana each to get them in for the night.

The area they use is also surrounded by an electric fence. It is run by mains electricity, the plug socket is in one of the bedrooms.

** Please ensure the electric fencing is active while the pigs are out in the large enclosure **

Water garden and pots, also internal plants.

What are the good features of the property and location

I live in a 3 bedroomed bungalow, in a rural and very quiet setting. You will need a car.

The bungalow is on a large plot of land with beautiful views, there is a terrace and flower garden within the fenced area.

Great if you enjoy country walks, photography, painting, reading, cycling.

You will have everything you need. I have unlimited internet, television and excellent mobile reception.

The pretty village, Atzeneta del Maestrat is 9kms from my house, a 10 minute drive away, there are numerous shops, supermarket, bars and banks. There isn't any public transport so you will need a car.

It is a 40 minute drive to the Costa del Azahar, Province of Castelló - Benicàssim, Oropesa del Mar, Alcossebre, Peniscola.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

If you want the hustle and bustle of a busy town/city or lots of night life this is not the place for you.

You are 44km/40 minutes drive from the nearest large town, which is Castellón de la Plana.

If you love animals and want a relaxing place to stay with some interesting places to visit nearby and the beach around 45 minute drive away; if you like painting, drawing, photography and nature, you will enjoy the experience.

I would prefer you to be able to come 2 days before I go away, so the handover can be done in person and we get to meet each other as well as learning the animals names and routines and I can take you through the quirks of the house.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Fantastic place with loving furry friends

We've just spent five great weeks at Melanie's house. Melanie came to us in the middle of the night after we spent half an hour driving around since the GPS gave us wrong directions. She welcomed us very warmly, showed us everything and left us all nececcery instructions - also written down. She made sure we had all the informations we needed. We were also provided with contacts to some friends just in case, se we felt secured. We tought that it will be hard with so many animals around, but that wasnt the case. Layla, Lulu and Reggie are lovery dogs, they just want to be loved, want someone to play with them and they simply enjoy human company. The cats are nine, however we closely met maybe five of them - so various personalities! If you enjoy cat's company you will definetly have couple of them fighting for your lap! The pigs, Mango and Papaya are very easy to handle, very friendly and courious, they are also way much cleaner than we tought they would be. And always hungry! We were concerned if we would be able to handle pigs but again - that was very easy. The area is so beautifull, we watched spectacular lights of dawn from the tarrace every morning - with mug of coffee in hand. We reccomend to everyone who loves tranquillity, lovely animals and simple living. We are greatfull that we were choosen, thank you Melanie!
