5 cats and their century-old home near San Francisco

About this assignment

We are looking for a person or couple that adores cats. Our 5 kitties are truly our family. We know that caring for 5 indoor cats takes a good amount of commitment on a daily basis (i.e. litterboxes!), so we want to know that anyone who contacts us as potential housesitters is very comfortable with the responsibilities. Also, our home is older and a little delicate in some ways, so we'd like someone who will be gentle with "her".

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Our cats eat twice a day, morning and evening. There is some management involved at mealtime due to their different personalities. One cat takes a pill once a day. They are strictly indoor cats and so we have litterboxes that require daily scooping.
We have houseplants that like to be watered about once a week. Our yard is watered by an automated drip irrigation system.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our town is in Marin County and about 10 miles north of San Francisco. We love where we live for all the spectacular nature around us with tons of hiking and biking trails, as well as the perks of urban living with museums, restaurants, and interesting architecture.

Trails in the Marin Headlands take us to amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city of San Francisco. A short drive takes us to Muir Woods National Monument with towering redwood trees, the Point Reyes National Seashore with beautiful beaches and cliffs, or Wine Country in Napa and Sonoma Valleys. And visiting the city of San Francisco is easy by car or ferry.

Our home is a single family home in walking distance of shops, the bus and train station, and the downtown area of our little town of San Rafael, with several restaurants. Also in walking distance is Dominican University and trail heads leading to hiking trails.There is a lot to do and see whether on foot, on bike, or in a car. In addition, fans of kayaking can enjoy the canal that leads out to San Francisco Bay.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We like to have frequent text communication with our housesitters, and we welcome photos of our kitties. Being such cat lovers ourselves, we hope to meet fellow cat lovers that will gladly give them love and care, and respond to each one's personality with patience. They are somewhat shy at first, but they love human interaction and warm up quickly to new friends.

There is a lot accessible on foot and with public transit from our doorstep, although having a car increases the variety of places to visit. (If you don't have a car, we can talk about options.)
