Hello my name is Caitlin and I work in the Live Entertainment Industry. I travel for work and pleasure often, and I need a trusted person to stay in my home with my beloved 12 year old Chihuhua, Pearl. Ideally you would have some experience with small or senior dogs and/or small dogs. My apartment is a great launch pad for enjoying NYC and working remotely. Pearl loves people, and a sitter that doesn't mind having a shadow is important (including snuggling at night).
Pearl has a pretty relaxed schedule. We begin the day between 7 am - 9 am with a 15-30 min walk, and then breakfast. A quick midday bathroom break. Then in the evening, usually between 5 pm and 7pm, we go for another 15 - 30 min walk, followed by dinner. If you have more time, and the weather is nice, Pearl will often love to go on a longer walk or adventure, she totes around the city nicely in her tote bag as well.
You do need to pay close attention on walks that she does not eat food that is left on the street. NYC is notorious for having scattered chicken bones and other food scraps on the ground, which are too tempting for Pearl! A firm tug with "leave it" usually does the trick, but it's best to keep an eye out and stear clear of tempting food on the ground when possible.
Pearl does have a bit of separation anxiety, so when I leave her I make sure she is in her hallway with her crate, a kong, and a puzzle toy. I also leave the tv on with calming music playing on the tv from Youtube. Pearl can be alone up to 6 hours.
I live in a sunny 1 bedroom apartment in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Crown Heights is a vibrant and community oriented neighborhood. There is a lovely park at the end fo the block, beautiful brownstones, cafes, stores, restaurants, all within a few mintues walk. I live a 10-15 min walk from 4 different subway lines that can take you into Manhattan and the rest of NYC. Buses also make it easy to visit north Brooklyn.
Sitters should be mindful that Pearl does sleep in bed and loves to snuggle. As an older dog, she is in great health but sitters should be aware that there may be senior dog issues that come up from time to time.
No, sorry.
