About this assignment

Hi there!

We are Guillermo and Daria, a Spanish-Italian couple who moved to the Merindades region (north of Burgos) this year after travelling in our van for 4 years.
We enjoyed our time very much and shared experiences with other workawayers and are now happy to be hosts! At this time we are looking for a couple to house-sit our cute house and our fur family (2 dogs + 1 cat + 6 chickens)

We have a nice house with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a nice big garden (2000 sqm). The house has wood heating, is a fireplace connected to the radiators that heat all rooms. We have plenty of wood already chopped and stored to be used.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We are looking for somebody, preferrably a couple, that can stay in our house and look after our animals.

The job is very simple:
- Taking the dogs out for a little walk in the morning or in the afternoon (very easy as we live in the countryside and there are no roads/cars and the house have a big garden)
- Feeding them at night.
- Making sure the water bowls are full
- Feeding the cat in the morning and in the afternoon (he lives outside the house).
- Keeping us informed of the state of our dogs and the house :)
- Keeping the house tidy.
- feed the chickens and collect eggs ??

That's it! If you like gardening you will be very welcome to spend time in our garden or greenhouse but at this time of the year there isn´t really much to be done.

What are the good features of the property and location

The town, Villavès, is at 800mt altitude meaning that the winters can be quite cold and the town is quite small (60-70 houses) without shops nor bars, although groceries, bread, veggies and frozen fish are delivered by different by vans through the week.

The nearest towns are the cute Puentedey which has 2 bars, and Pedrosa de Valdeporres with a small shop (10 min drive). Otherwise, Villarcayo is 17 km away and has all kinds of supermarkets and shops. Unfortunately, there is no public transportation but we will leave our car for use in case you have a valid driving licence. In front of our house, there are different hiking paths, so it is a perfect place if you are a nature lover. The region also has several beautiful spots to be discovered: Hermita San Bernabe, Monasterio de Rioseco, Orbaneja del Castillo, Espinosa de Monteros…

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

ABOUT OUR DOGS:

Our podenca Lien is 7 years old and is super calm and basically sleeps all day (except if you leave some food at reach, she will make all possible tricks to try and steal it lolol). The shepherd Ori is a 2-year-old male and constantly looking for human company, so will follow you wherever you go (possibly to the toilet as well).
They are also used to stay alone in the house so if you are planning to spend the day outside they will be perfectly fine.

WHAT WE PROVIDE:

A full house all for yourself! 2 double bedrooms, 1 studio with nice big working desk, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, a wood burning chimney that will heat the entire house+plenty of already chopped wood, a washing machine, a decent internet connection that enables work from home (is not the fastest but we are able to work with it or watch movies) and a very big garden. You are also welcome to borrow our 2 bikes and to use our car (Berlingo) if you don't have your own. You will be able to use whatever food/condiments you find in the kitchen and will only need to buy the fresh products.

There's a little market in the close by village on Tuesday (Soncillo) or on Monday in Villarcayo. Main supermarkets are 25 min drive.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We think the place would be a great fit for a couple who loves nature and are not afraid of cold winter days. We expect you to come and stay in our place for 2-3 days before our departure so we can explain everything and share some time knowing each other.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
