Two cats and a peaceful, sunny balcony in the heart of Berlin

About this assignment

Huginn and Muninn are looking for a someone to spoil them while their owner is away for a week.

Huginn wants someone to throw open the balcony doors so he can play in the garden, and Muninn wants someone sitting next to her on the couch, while they "work" from home together.

Both appreciate a calm presence who respects their boundaries and is excited to get to know them as individuals - and creamy dreamies. A variety of treats will be provided.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

- Wet food twice daily
- Hairball paste in the morning
- Refill the cat fountain daily
- Clean litter tray daily

- Make sure Huginn gets some outside time during the day, but that he is in at night (does not go out after dinner)
- Interact with Muninn - or at least be around when she's ready to interact with you

- Give out treats, love, strokes
- Respond to cat needs

- Take action in the event of emergency or urgent issues either with the cats (vet numbers, emergency numbers and insurance information will be provided) or the house

- I'd appreciate at least for the first few days a small daily update so I know that everything is going ok

- At present, neither cat requires any medications, except they both lick hairball paste off my finger before breakfast. Huginn has flea/tick drops but you will not need to do that.

The cats have had quite a few sitters before but this is (or would be) our first through this platform and our first since moving into this new apartment.

What are the good features of the property and location

This is a very special historic DDR apartment block in one of the best areas of Berlin. We are within walking distance of Berghain, Uber Arena, East Side Gallery / Berlin Wall Memorial Museum, Warschauerstr. RAW Gelände, Oberbaumebrüche, Boxhagner Platz, Frankfurter Tor, Karl Marx Allee and the Computer Games Museum. (I'm sure there's more.)

It's very well connected to public transport, with supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, yoga studios, maker spaces, ice cream stores, board game cafes, etc.

There is incredible hidden gem that we have what is essentially a private park, in the inner courtyard of the complex, and the apartment is on the ground floor overlooking the park, but there are a lot of bushes directly in front of my balcony so it also feels incredibly private. It is wonderful.

Also, there are cats!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Huginn and Muninn just turned six. They are both very intelligent and engaged cats, with complex personalities. Huginn likes to spend their time outside in our gigantic goregeous communal garden exploring and interacting with the wildlife here (hedgehogs, woodpeckers, owls, mice etc.). Muninn, in contrast, is orientated towards humans and wants to be close to you and part of the daily routine. They were both born feral and rescued at 12-weeks so you do need to earn their trust.

We just moved here two months ago and everything is still slowly coming together. Huginn is used to having a cat door and coming and going freely. However, there are some complexities that mean I won't have one until September or so, and also there is a rat control effort at the other end of our gigantic garden so I don't want him outside all night (It started just days after we moved in, which is frustrating because if we had been here for six months I think there might not have been a rat problem). If we are very lucky it will end before the sit, but this is unlikely. At present he is staying close to our balcony and not going anywhere near the bins where the bait traps are.

I'm still getting the place set up. I have a very comfortable king size bed, a gorgeous new couch, a functional desk area and a lovely comfy chair on the balcony but it does still feel in progress to being finished. In particular, I am currently working on the kitchen. I have:

- large fridge/freezer
- microwave
- washing machine
- dishwasher
- kettle
- rice cooker
- food processor
- all the plates, boxes, spices, sauces etc.

I do not have:
- an oven or hob
- a proper work surface in the kitchen
- a kitchen sink (you need to use the sink in the bathroom or the dishwasher)
