Want a quick escape from winter? Come on up to snow-free Powell River. Please apply even if you can only cover some of the days needed.
The most important qualification I'm looking for is that you be a cat lover. :)
Of course responsible, neat, and honest are right up there as well! And please, non-smokers only.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
This is a really easy housesit. Just give the cat food and water daily. She has a cat door, so there's no kitty litter. Bring in the mail, water the indoor plants weekly, and that's it. You can spend your time exploring and enjoying the area.
What are the good features of the property and location
We have a cute 2 bedroom house with a lovely ocean view, walking distance from the Seawalk, downtown, and forested trails.
Powell River has a mild climate and is a gorgeous area brimming with wonderful outdoor activities. If you like to hike, kayak, bike, snowshoe, scuba dive, rock climb, or more, you would love it here! It's about 160 km north of Vancouver on the Sunshine Coast, and a ferry ride across to Vancouver Island.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
There's a lot to do and a lot going on in Powell River.The weather is good year-round for outdoor activities. As well, there are many superb restaurants, a heritage theatre showing the latest movies, a state-of-the-art Recreation Complex, and much more. Paradise on Earth with a lovely tortoiseshell kitty
I've spent almost three weeks in the house of Terry and Draigh and their lovely kitty Briar. The place is a gem. Powell River is a cozy coastal town that has everything within walking distance. The house with three terraces (two with a view of the ocean) is very comfortable, tidy and perfectly located. Briar is sweet, little shy at first, but quickly warms up to you, comes for petting and to sleep with you. Very low maintenance and wonderful companion. Terry and Draigh showed me and explained everything clearly and also left written instructions for everything I needed to know. I've received comprehensive information (with maps) regarding what is worth seeing and exploring. Great contact throughout the stay with a possibility to ask any additional questions. Possibly the best sitting I've done so far. I would definitely love to come back some day.

Merci à Terry et Draigh d'avoir accepté de nous faire confiance. Grâce à eux nous avons découvert ce joli petit coin du Canada dans de bonnes conditions. Terry est très organisée, elle a laissé des instructions détaillées, ce qui nous a été très utile. Elle est restée en contact tout au long de notre séjour, c'est rassurant. La maison est agréable avec deux terrasses dont l'une donne une vue superbe sur le détroit. Briar, la chatte de la maison est tout simplement ADORABLE. Nous l'aurions volontiers prise dans nos bagages pour la ramener en France avec nous. Elle nous manque déjà !

Easy Peasy
I sat for Terry and Draigh and enjoyed Briar. Briar practiced yoga with me most days and snuggled with me at night! I walked lots of Powell River, and the highlight was sweet Briar. Briar comes and goes, and will remind you that it’s treat time. Terry provided fulsome instructions for the stay, which I appreciated. I enjoyed the fresh tomatoes and herbs.

My house-sitting experience in Powell River at Terry's home was so delightful. The town itself is quaint, with the sea right in front & nature trails all around to enjoy. There are enough grocery stores, cafes, and restaurants to feel cosy & provide all you need. Briar Rose (cat) was a joy to take care of, she was very independent but came around once in a while to get some TLC which I adored. Terry explained everything upon my arrival, very thorough and her home was a pleasure to stay in. The view from the balcony is beautiful and her area of town is nice and quiet. Thank you Terry for this wonderful opportunity. I hope to visit again.

The Best Kitty!
Briar is the best cat! She’s just the right amount of purr & cuddle while still maintaining her independence. She has a magnet operated kitty door — so this means she can come and go as she pleases, yet no other interlopers have access to the home. She has no litter box to clean! Briar eats her food eagerly. Sweet temperament and so lovable, we so enjoyed our time caring for this special girl! Terry and Draigh’s yard is a cornucopia, with several garden zones, each having its own special flavour. We enjoyed our time watering, mowing, weeding — especially those dang dandelions with the handy-dandy puller tool— but never fear, there were still plenty of bee plants available and the buzzing to prove it (and not so many dandelions). We even had a small tree come down in the yard while we were there, which we chopped and piled for disposal later. The flowers that bloomed were spectacular — poppies, lilacs, roses, hens’n’chicks and many others. Most of the plant life is on an automatic irrigation system, except the tomatoes in the greenhouse, making for easy care. Terry & Draigh are friendly and welcoming. The instructions that were left for us were thorough, and Terry was always quickly available by text for questions. The location of the home is ideal and quite close to amenities in Powell River. A typical older home, it is small and has a mildly musty smell, especially in the basement. A comfortable double bed is provided on the main floor. Since we don’t watch television, not having one was no inconvenience for us. It will be important for any sitter to clarify in advance whether Terry & Draigh’s return date is flexible or fixed. We recommend this sit, caring for Briar and her home was a pleasure, and Terry and Draigh are friendly people.

Powell River ... perfectly pleasant!
I recently finished a month long house sit at Terry's in Powell River, which is about 100 miles northwest of Vancouver on the mainland BC coast. She has a small, very comfortable house overlooking the Strait of Georgia, lives sustainably and has a very well mannered, friendly cat named Briar. Day to day needs were very straightforward and easily manageable, providing lots of time to explore the area. Powell River is a small community with a lot going on ... both outdoors and culturally. Great hiking and biking, even during February, albeit a bit chilly at times. I happened to be there during the annual film festival held in a small 100 yr old movie theater, which was a lot of fun. Local people are very friendly, there are some great restaurants and gazing across the expanse of water to the snow capped peaks of Vancouver Island never gets old. I really enjoyed my time there and highly recommend it if you have an opportunity - you'll never be boredTerry's very friendly and welcoming and has lots of interesting information to share about the area.

A lovely furry companion!
Terry was great to house sit for. She friendly and has interesting stories to share! Terry left us detailed instructions so we were clear about what was required for Briar, the house and the gardens. All was simple and straight forward. She also kept in contact; happily and promptly answering any questions we had. We fell in love with Briar! She is such a sweet heart; easy going, playful, cuddly and not shy at all. The house is on 2 bus routes that will take you easily to/from the centre, if you don't feel like walking the 15-20 minutes with groceries. We highly recommend house sitting for Terry if you want to spend some time in Powell River...you'll even have a lovely view of the ocean from the deck!

Excellent Home Sit in Powelll River
Aloha Potential Home sitter, If you are reading this you are interested in home sitting for Terry. Nike Baby....Just Do it! Terry is easy to talk to, honest, returns calls and emails promptly. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Terry tells is like it is. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting for Terry and would do it again. This was our first home sit and could not have had a better host to start. Terry is a great person, and her cat, Briar, independent as cats are, was easy to care for since there is a 'Kitty Door' so she comes and goes as she pleases. Terry's home has everything you will need. The house is well organized and clean. Terry left detailed written instructions that were easy to follow. There is an awesome view from her house of the beautiful blue water of the Straight of Georgia, with Texada & Vancouver Islands in the background. There is a great garden/yard, a very peaceful space with large shade trees to sit under. When we were there, the vegetables in the garden were ready to eat. Powell River is a small town but had plenty of shopping and restaurants. There is a Recreation Complex with hockey rink, racket ball courts in indoor pools for lap swimming and a warm water therapy pool to soak tired muscles. Lots of hiking in and around Powell River and the public forest lands to the east. Some rock climbing areas as well. We hardly recommend home sitting for Terry and Briar.
