About this assignment
We are looking for responsible and open-minded people with a big heart for nature and animals who would like to spend some time in our finca and be step parents to our dogs and cats….
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
The 7 dogs and 2 cats (living in an outside cat’s house) need feeding twice a day at 8 am and 6 pm. Of course, there is always sth to do with a rural finca, collecting the poo of the grass daily, leaves from the pool etc. We do have a gardener coming regularly and a cleaner for the basics, but it would be very nice to give a hand with small things like watering the plants / vegetable garden depending of the time of the year (irrigation system is connected most parts). Keeping the place clean and tidy would be really nice, especially after using the kitchen. If you have skills and feel board, we are happy to talk. But basically, there is no work to do just be there for the dogs and look after the house. On short dates you may stay a bit longer especially if you are travelling from abroad, so it is worthwhile the trip for you. Would be better anyway to arrive a day or so in advance to get to know the place and the dogs (and us, haha).
What are the good features of the property and location
The finca "Alqueria" is conveniently situated between Málaga and Marbella on a hill with panoramic views of the coast and the sea, only 35 km from the airport Málaga, easy to reach and yet hidden up on a hill in the countryside, not part of any community or urbanization. Only 8 minutes’ drive to the beach, to the small village La Cala de Mijas where you find all necessary amenities, supermarkets, restaurants etc. You will be staying in your own guest rooms with a separate entrance to the main house, yet with access to the house to use the kitchen, dining room, terraces, pool, Jacuzzi, we have fiber internet WIFI connection, so may even use your time for work online.
The Finca offers peace and tranquility with close proximity to the sea. The two guest rooms have their own entrance and a private bathroom as well as access to the terrace, which is south-facing and offers excellent sea views. There is a pool, a jacuzzi and you can feel at home from the very beginning. We have been living in Spain in this finca since for over 25 years, and we are very happy to share the Spain experience with guests and friends. Also very happy to have found this internet service of MindmyHouse in order to be able to travel and know the dogs are being looked after!
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
You will be surrounded by a pack of 7 dogs who love attention and sometimes can be quite insisting and excited. Although they spend most of the time sleeping they can be energetic when they meet you or when they get excited. But they listen well and are cuddly curley monsters. You will need a rental car in order to be independent, the next restaurants / shops are too far away to walk (5-6 km). We can arrange a rental car for your stay, you will be met personally at arrival. Smoking only outside the house, please.

Lovely Finca and 5 dogs and 2 cats
In a beautiful, completely restored old farmhouse (named a Finca), we did a sit for 4 Spanish dogs (Spanish Waterdogs and Ratonero Bodegueras), a Queen Poodle dog and two lovely cats that are owned by Carola and Jan, a very warm and friendly couple. We lived in one of their guest chambers with our own bathroom and patio. The Finca is also having some accommodation to rent for a holiday, so you can use the pool. It’s located near Mijas, and Marbella and Malaga are relatively close, but it’s situated on the top of a hill with a lovely breeze coming from the sea, very quiet and safe, and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea while sitting outside. We loved to look after the animals in their animal paradise. They can play all day long in the large garden coming down from the hill. The garden is fenced by a sea of flowers and oleanders a couple of meters high, surrounding the grass. The dogs come in different ages, from a bit older to just teenagers. All dogs are very enthusiastic when they see you in the morning and love to be around you. While looking after the dogs and cats, we did our best to take care of Carola’s plants in pots the best we could for her, the gardener did the rest. The dogs also have a personal trainer and they love to do some dogs practice. They are very smart dogs. Next to the house you find a spa and a golf court and, down hill, by the sea, the lovely village of Mijas with supermarkets and restaurants. Carola is a very good hostess, she likes to help you with all things that might be important to you. Touristic trips, nice restaurants, she is very helpful to guide you around. Jan can fix anything, so the house is well equipped with modern gadgets, it’s a lovely place to be. We loved the dogs and cats very much. We are used to numerous pets living together in the house, so we felt great with them. With five dogs though, you need to be the leader of the gang, which isn’t that difficult with them because they’re all so sweet. They are really happy to do things for you, as long you’re sweet to them too. When you are relaxed with this lovely gang, they love you for it and are absolute wonderful dogs to stay with. The cats are also very friendly, but mostly do their own cat things (they are a brother and sister), and you will probably only see them when you feed them. The whole house is extremely good organised for the dogs to live in, they all have their own beds and the house is very clean and lovely decorated. Those dogs really live in paradise, and we were so lucky to join them for a while. Thank you Carola and Jan to invite us over to your home in paradise.
