Érable is an older cat so she sleeps most of the day and is not very energetic. She is wary of strangers at first but she is sweet and loving after some time together. She receives special food but does not have serious health problems.

About this assignment
Looking for a house sitter to take care of our cat during the spring 16.05.2026 - 07.06.2026. We are located in Freiburg, Germany. You should have experience with cats :) Speaking German is not required.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
You will need to feed and tidy up after the cat daily, and take care of the household. Weekly cleaning of the apartment is required but not much else!
What are the good features of the property and location
We are located in a 2 room (1 bedroom) apartment in the Wiehre neighbourhood of Freiburg. Our apartment is on the top floor of a low-rise apartment building with 2 large balconies. The apartment is small (50 m^2) but comfortable, with a great view on either side. Located in a residential area, 5 minutes walk away from a Lidl. Freiburg is a pleasant town near the heart of Germany's Black Forest. Great for nature lovers and with the amenities of a city.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
You must be available during the listed dates. Experience with cats is required as we adopted our senior (~15 years old) girl from a shelter. She lived many years on the street so someone who understands the behaviour of formal feral cats is best. She is still nervous around strangers but friendly after she warms up to you.

A very nice town in Germany with sweet cat Érable
I was sitting in Fair's and Alex' home their beautiful and sweet cat Èrable for about two week's time. It was a very nice experience: the flat was near Freiburg centre, a fabulous medieval town with beautiful cathedral and Christmas market. Also an interesting museum with old Christian art and statues.Fair and Alex are such a lovely people, they helped me to cope with everything. I really could feel like at home. They also love their cat deeply as I also learned to do during this short time. I will definitely recommend this Fair & Alex and hope to see you guys again soon!

XMAS-New Years in lovely Freiburg
My adult daughter and I cat-sat for Fair and Alex over the winter holidays 2024-25 for about 2 weeks. We were originally going to sit for their previous cat but unfortunately she died a couple months prior. As we had already bought our plane tickets according to their dates, Fair and Alex graciously offered to let us stay in their apt. as planned, even though they no longer needed a sitter. So nice of them! They ended up adopting a new-older cat, Koko, about a month or two before the sit, so we were very happy to have a cat to sit for after all :) Koko is a very easy cat to care for. She took her time warming up to us and once she did, she was sweet and sometimes playful, but not overly interactive or cuddly... and she spent most of the time sleeping. The apt itself is very well located, about 3 minutes to a tram station and about 10 min on foot to the nearest Lidel. Fair and Alex were very welcoming and we all had a nice dinner together the evening we arrived. They offered us use of their bikes and left us plenty of room for our stuff in the bureaus. Freiburg is lovely, even in the winter, with lots to do (though the museums were a bit underwhelming). We had a great time exploring the city and between the holidays we managed to pop over to France and visit beautiful Colmar and on a train ride to the Black Forest area. Too many of the days were holidays and Sundays (everything's closed) but that's just the time of year... We definitely recommend sitting for Koko and this lovely, welcoming and friendly couple and caring for their apt. - a great base from which to explore Freiburg and the area!

Great house-sit in southern Germany
I had a really nice time here in the city of Freiburg which is perfectly located for the black forest and the apartment is very central to reach everything on foot or by tram. There is a great lido just ten minutes away and the city is excellent for cycling. Suzi the cat was very easy to care for and Fair and Alex were really helpful with info and travel arrangements. I had the chance to spend a couple of days with them before I left and they are great people to talk to and really easy-going :)) would happily return and highly recommend :)
