About this assignment
Still looking for sitters
- mid-October, and November or early December this year (1-2 weeks ea.) and if you want to plan ahead, 2025 is still wide open
Must be a cat person (they do have their own little personalities); happy to welcome internationals to this lovely, green spot in DE! Feed and talk to the kitties twice a day and let one in when it‘s cold. Other than that: If you keep things clean and clean up when you leave the house, please do whatever you feel like doing: Go to a nearby city for sightseeing, enjoy the patio etc. I‘m really just looking to give the cats some continuity as I need to be away for 2 to 3 weeks at a time for work.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
air out the house once in a while and mainly look after the two resident cats (one is a bit of a stray and lives outdoors, one loves people and prefers to come in at night and hang out). Ideally, you have some sympathy for when a flower is about to die in the summer and water it. Not much else really as for work reasons I am mainly looking for a cat-sitter as I can‘t take them with me to where I work and they are used to having company - my mom sadly passed away recently and she was always here to care for the kitties
What are the good features of the property and location
nice and big in a beautiful, rural part in the centre of Germany - nice for hikers, bicycle enthusiasts and if you are into German culture: The old towns of historic Weimar and Erfurt are only a 30 min drive away. Internet is good. The village is quiet, neighbours are super nice. NOTE: Next train station is in Soemmerda, Weimar or Erfurt, i.e. you will pretty much need your own ride or be willing to take the bus to get groceries as public transit in general is not well developed around here. The home is in in the Beichlingen suburb, so a bit further away from town. Bus goes 3x a day.
P.S.: I can usually ensure pick-up and drop-off at one of the above train stations, should you not have your own ride and/or get your groceries if you‘re only looking for a shorter sit without wanting to travel the area.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Please note I am
usually only looking for a sitter for 1 - max. 3 weeks at a time, nothing longer-term at this point. Dates are flexible and I can adapt my schedule. You gotta love peace and quiet as it is a small town. Strictly non-smoking. Reliability is a must and as the home is relatively new, it would be great if you treated it well too ;) Please note the home is great for single people and couples, not so much families with kids. Also, the cats are not used to and hence not very fond of kids… sorry!

The experience at Britta's house has been wonderful! I loved it from start to finish, first of all because she is a unique, special person, and I enjoyed every moment we spent together! She's one of those people you want to learn everything from, and share many wine-filled conversations with. Her little babies, Maple and Micky, are precious, with unique personalities, very affectionate, and also extremely well-behaved and attentive. I miss them a lot! The house is cozy, large, spacious, and very warm, filled with areas for relaxation, remote work, garden activities, and more. The neighborhood is truly a magical place! with a castle, with a king's stories, with large corn fields.. the neighbors are very friendly and always willing to help. The location is dreamy too, with storybook-like landscapes. It's a beautiful rural area, full of old, typical German houses. In the afternoons, during my walks, I could smell the scent of kitchens baking apple and cinnamon desserts, along with the smell of wood-burning fireplaces. I am so happy with this experience. It opened my senses, and I also feel that with my time there, I contributed to helping Britta, who is such a lovely host and after this experience, I feel that I have a new friend. I loved this experience and highly recommend it!

House sit 4 June to 9 June
When we arrived Britta was very welcoming and provided all the information we required to care for her 2 cats and home. We found her home very comfortable and her 2 cats Mickey and Maple were very shy with us at first. It took sometime for them to allow us to play with them. We enjoyed our walks exploring the rural area and Beichlingen castle grounds, which is only a short walk. Shopping was only a short drive away. We had no issues and recommend this house sit.
