About this assignment

We are looking for someone that is a Non smoker, responsible, clean, respectful of our home and pets.
Someone that can handle the quirks of island living and must be ok with stairs, there are quite a few to get to pool area.
Before you apply please research to make sure the island and house is a good fit for you.

Also, my mother will be traveling with us. She lives 2 minutes away walking, 30 seconds in a vehicle. Her house and pets will be needing someone. There is a deaf dog, inside birds and fish aquarium. Outside feral now loving cats, 1 bird cage and chickens coop. The property across the street from the beach, it has various fruit trees and lots of plants and orchids.
We are open to a family, friends or small group staying at both places and as they can enjoy the houses, pool, beach across the street and island life.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Pets and indoors
We do not allow the cat on the furniture and I do ask that you vacuum 2 to 3x a week to pick up cat hair. I typically do it daily.
Theo, the dog, may not be with us when vacation time comes. Currently he requires medication 2x a day with his food for his condition.
Nia, the inside cat is deaf. She in mainly an indoor cat that was have just starting letting her outside at night and back inside in the morning 1 to 2x weekly.
She has a doggy door to outside Balcony where she likes to hang out, her litter box is also located out there.

Goldie, the goldfish gets a pinch of food 2x a day.

Outside the front door, we feed 2 to 3 feral cats 1x a day in the morning and give water.

On the balcony there are a few plants that requiring water every other day, there is a hose on balcony.

Outside
The pool is a salt water self chlorinate pool. Easy maintenance and nothing should need to be added to the pool.
We have a robot that needs to be dropped in the water and then remove when finished. The filter needs to be removed and washed out. this is used 1 to 2x a week depending on condition. The pool may be to be scooped out if there are leaves in it, but doesn't happen frequently.

There are plants outside that will need watering. There are 3 hoses in different areas to make this easier. I normally use 1 to 2 hoses to soak hill side while I water the other side.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our house is on located on Vieques Island which is an island off the east coast of Puerto Rico. Only accessible by small plane or ferry. Vieques is special, you will not find any stop lights and our traffic is typically the wild horses roaming. No fast food restaurants or 24hr businesses.

The house sits on the North side of the Vieques, we are on the hill side looking at Puerto Rico, perfect for sunsets! Sit and watch the ocean from kitchen table, balcony, roof top or down by the pool.
The house has 1 bedroom with bunk beds(full/twin), 1 bathroom with shower, kitchen, dining and living room. The house has 3 AC units that can be used. During warmer months we leave 1 unit in living room on at 26C/78D and the house is comfortable until the late afternoon.
There us a large TV in living room that has streaming services.
Our bedroom will be closed off to store personal items.

The house is equipped with internet, like most things in Caribbean - it can be quirky. We experience slow speeds and sometime outages. We cannot guarantee it.

Outside and down several stairs we have an incredible outdoor space. You will get to enjoy a huge pool that has water fountains, umbrellas for shade. Inside the Cabana area is kitchen area with fridge, fan, grill and seating area.

The house is located just 2/3 minutes from 2 different beaches. One is great for swimming, snorkeling *on calm days* or surfing when the surf is up! The other beach is great for a nice beach walk.

The sit does not in include a vehicle for transportation. The main town, Isabel Segunda is 15-20 minute walk(.8 mile) from the house, 5 minute in car. In town, you will find the grocery store, restaurants, stores and colmados(mini market).

In order to reach Vieques, you must fly in to San Juan International, take a puddle jumper flight or 1 hr 20 min taxi to the ferry terminal and then a 35-1 hr ferry ride over to our island.
Because of this, it is important to book a flight that arrives in the early afternoon to San Juan. If not, you may need to stay overnight.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

At this time we do not have a vehicle to offer with the job, town is 10/15 minutes away which is where the restaurants, bars and grocery stores are located.

~How to get here, it takes a full day of travel.
~The island does not have a hospital, it has a CDT center and they handle minor things like stiches and maybe an xray *IF* there is a technician. They will fly you off island in the event of an emergency.
~ There is not a full time vet on the island. One may be available 2x a week, at times there is a vet that lives here unfortunate situation.
~ There are no ways off island via plane after 5pm, ferry 8pm.
~It's the Caribbean, there are bugs, mosquitos and ants.
~ The island can be limited with fresh fruit and vegetables, deliveries occur 1x a week.
~ The island can lose water or electricity for a short period, a day, a couple days. While we haven't had any electricity issues in a while it can happen. Water has recently gone out due to pipes being fixed. Service is restored within a few hours.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
