About this assignment
We would love to welcome a tidy (non-smoking) and reliable cat lover who enjoys a quiet home environment. Good communication is important to us, as well as respecting commitments that have been made for the wellbeing of Pluk and our home.
We're looking for someone who treats other people's belongings with care and leaves the house as they found it. It's important to us that you're patient with Pluk and happy to let her set the pace when it comes to interaction.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
The most important responsibility is caring for our cat, Pluk. She needs fresh food and water every day and enjoys some playtime and company.
At the end of each day, please make sure Pluk is indoors, refresh her food and water, and close the cat flap for the night.
We would also appreciate it if you could water our indoor plants according to our Plantsome app. During warm weather, the garden may also need watering.
Pluk is generally very easy to care for, but she should not be left alone for more than two days at a time.
What are the good features of the property and location
Our home is located in Culemborg, a lovely Dutch town with plenty of nature and walking opportunities nearby.
The train station is a 15-minute walk from the house. From there, Utrecht Central Station and Den Bosch can both be reached in about 20 minutes by train.
The house offers:
- Free parking directly in front of the house
- 3 Minute walk to the supermarket
- Two bicycles available for use
- A cosy living space with a newly renovated kitchen
- Two separate home offices/workspaces
- A (very!!) comfortable double bed
- A projector for movie nights
- A piano
- A sleeping chair/armchair for an extra guest
Outside, you'll find a spacious garden with a vegetable patch and herb garden. You're welcome to harvest and enjoy anything that's ready to pick during your stay.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Pluk needs some time to warm up to new people. If you're a man (yes, really, sorry for that), she may initially be more anxious and could hide or keep her distance. It's important that she's given the time and space she needs to feel comfortable. Once she feels safe, she'll usually come to you on her own terms.A calm and patient approach works best with her.
Unfortunately, Pluk does not do well with young children or other pets.

Recommended cat-sit
I had a good experience cat-sitting for Jet. She lives not far from Utrecht's center, even within walking distance, and just three tram stops from the central station (and the tram stop is right across the street). So the location is very convenient. Pluk is a bit of a complicated cat who tends to be afraid and hostile toward strangers, but she eventually gets used to you, comes for attention, and loves being petted. Just give her time, and let her approach you rather than the other way around. Maintenance is minimal: every morning, give Pluk a cup of dry food and clean her litter box. Then you can be away all day long, without needing to return for an evening feeding - which is very convenient for a traveler who wishes to get the maximum of his time in town. Recommended!

Tiny cat in nice apartment
I've been very lucky to sit for Jet, Thomas & cat Pluk in Utrecht. The apartment is at the eight' floor which I loved. Great panoramas and very private. Pluk was such a sweet little cat, I loved to play with her. She was on a dry food diet so that was very simple. A city location is best for me because I don't have a car. I could go everywhere with public transport and Jet lent me her bike. ( also much appreciated). I met Thomas a few days before to get the key and explanations about their place. ( because I am a local sitter, it was easy to organise) I came in a clean apartment and well organised. They were easy going people with a kind of humor I liked. Supermarkets on walking distance and Utrecht has a lot to offer. I would really love to sit for them again.

I forgot to say that Jet’s cat Pluk is gorgeous. She was wary of us at first but warmed up quite quickly. She is very lovable and no trouble at all. All in all a great housesit.

Jet and Thomas’s apartment is very nice with great views and in a perfect position for getting around beautiful Utrecht. Trams are right outside the door and the train station within walking distance or a short tram ride. Jet was easy to communicate with and very helpful. Thanks for a great stay Jet.
