We’re looking for a responsible, animal-loving mature individual or couple to care for our smallholding in County Meath. While no specialist experience is required, you should feel confident around animals, particularly larger ones like cows and goats. Physical capability is important, as is a calm and caring attitude. The ideal house sitter enjoys a peaceful rural setting, is attentive to routines, and has a practical approach to everyday tasks. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the simple rhythm of country life and genuinely cares for animals.
Daily tasks include feeding and checking on our cows, goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and two friendly dogs. The rabbits need the most hands-on care. We also have bees and a few independent cats that mostly look after themselves. You’ll ensure water is topped up, bedding is freshened, and animals are safe and well. No veterinary or agricultural experience is needed—we’ll provide full instructions and vet contact details. Your presence on-site also provides basic home security and general upkeep.
Our peaceful property is set in the Meath countryside, surrounded by rolling fields, trees, and historic ruins right on site. The property is located in Rathmore, a lovely rural village in County Meath. We're just a short drive from the Hill of Tara, one of Ireland’s most iconic historic sites, and surrounded by beautiful countryside perfect for walks, nature watching, and quiet reflection. The area offers a real sense of heritage and tranquillity, with nearby Trim and Navan offering cafés, shops, and amenities if needed. The main house is over 180 years old, with metre-thick historic stone walls that give it a grounded, timeless character. Sitters will have their own separate one-bedroom apartment attached to the house, with a double bed, small kitchen, en-suite bathroom, and a cosy living room featuring a functional fireplace—ideal for quiet evenings in. There's also a garden in need of some love, so those with green fingers will find it a rewarding side project.
This is a rural, hands-on sit best suited to someone comfortable with daily animal care and the calm routine of country life. Reliability and a caring nature are essential. We’ll provide clear guidance and are available for questions throughout the sit. You’ll need to be physically fit enough to manage farm chores and proactive in noticing if something seems off. A love of animals, fresh air, and the outdoors is a must!
