About this assignment
We are open to a single sitter or a couple- sorry but no families. Calm, sensible, dog lover. Must know and love Rotties, do cuddles and put up with some drooling :) Non smoking house but happy for sitter to smoke outside. Heating is via wood burner stoves. Rural location but use of truck for local journeys subject to full, clean manual licence/International permit- truck is RHD. We have loads of wildlife and lovely walks- hares, deer, boar, badgers, martins and a wide variety of birds!
References and ID, insurance and DBS checks are required.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Care of 2 big, friendly dogs that do not require walking as we have a huge garden. They like to go out a few times a day and are fed am and pm. We are a TB stud with around 20 horses but we have dedicated daily staff for them. If you are an experienced horse person, there may be an opportunity to feed the foals in the evening depending on time of year- this is not obligatory! Staff will be in every morning in any event so you would never be soley responsible.Depending on time of year there may be some plants to water. We ask that the house is kept clean and tidy.
What are the good features of the property and location
Comfortable, well equipped character property with a private ensuite guest room for your use. A beautiful room with lovely views and a comfy double bed. Rural, peaceful with no immediate neighbours. Shops and reasonable sized village with banks, shops, pharmacy 5km away. Staff for horses come in every day.Unlimited fast wifi. Comfy, cozy house with French and English TV.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
We would like around 6 weeks within the dates given but are happy for sitters arrive before and leave later if it helps with travel plans. We require several days before we leave to ensure you are fully confident in what is required. If you don't drive it could be isolating although we can take you shopping before we leave and it's possible to arrange a lift to the village. Must be OK handling large dogs. Due to an unfortunate experience, we do not allow visitors during the sit - for clarity, we had a sitter invite their friends to come and stay with them during a sit- we were unaware until we returned and there was damage.

Normandy!
We were asked to sit a 2nd time for Debra and Neil and were so happy to be able to. They are such an amazing, warm, and generous couple! Their house is amazing and it has all the kitchen implements a cook/chef can hope for. And, something one doesn't see very often -- a games room! The wi-fi is superb for on-line workers, also. The location is in a very quiet farming area, so relaxation is guaranteed, as is comfort. The dogs are VERY easy to care for (though lots of vacuuming!) and cuddles are given easily and freely 🤗 Wild birds abound, and wildlife in general are either on the property or nearby on roads and neighbouring fields. The horses seen outside the bedroom window is something special to wake up to! Towns close to the house have everything you may need to shop for. We're there near and through the Christmas holidays, thus Christmas markets are running, too. Again we agree that this is a special sit and, so much so, we're scheduled for a 3rd visit! Cheers!

Amazing experience!
This was my first dogsit and it was from the 1st contact very reassuring.. i arrived in the evening and the 2 dogs were excited but very friendly and also with Debra and Neil i felt right at home, we had a nice meal together so we could talk about everything and they gave me a full tour and many tips what there was to see. They left in the early morning and the quiet and peaceful surrounding and the 2 lovely dogs made my holiday complete. I had the time to explore the various cities and had a lovely room annex bathroom for myself. I took care of the dogs ánd the house as if it were my own and updated Debra every day. When i had a question or little problem, electricity went partially down after a thunderstorm, they always reacted within 10min.with the solution. It was my 1st experience and i loved it! So thx for the trust and wish Jackson and Basil lots of love in the future!

PICTURE PERFECT HOUSE SIT WITH 2 LOVEABLE FURRY BOYS!
I was so excited to arrive at this house sit and it rewarded my anticipation with more than a double dose of beautiful France, kind-hearted hosts and super affectionate doggies- not forgetting the beautiful horses! House sitting for Debra and Neil’s home was like living in a picture post card of a quintessential French countryside cottage, quaint village scenes and a gorgeously pretty French style bedroom. Caring for Debra and Neil’s personality rich and gentle giant doggies has been memorable and I was able to know Rottweilers in a brand new way. This might sound cliche, but Jackson and Basil will be hard to forget. They will forever live in a special corner of my heart for their most charming company and who always made me feel appreciated to be around with cuddly times and uniquely vocal Rottweiler purrs which are characteristic of this breed only. It surely made me feel loved! I can highly recommend house sitting for Debra and Neil as they were not only demonstrably grateful, thoughtful and considerate, but their communications and expectations were clear, well documented and easy to follow. In truth, I feel as if this house sit gave me more than I was able to do for them. Hope to come back again if the planets line up for me to return once more to scenic Normandy! Normandy House-sit
The weather was cold and miserable, however Debra and Neil were the warmest and most generous of people! We were treated SO well. Their dogs, Basil and Stig, were sweet, easy-going and extremely easy to care for. Both Debra and Neil provided great directions for the dogs as well as for taking care of the house. And, they remained within quick contact while they were away lest any problems arose. Our accommodation was lovely - more like a hotel suite! It's also very private. We would recommend a sit here if quiet farmland is something one enjoys! PS: This was our first sit using this site and couldn't be more pleased with how it went.
