Stone house overlooking Charente river in rural hamlet close to facilities

About this assignment

Looking for cat loving house sitter / sitters who would like to spend at least weeks in the heart of the Charente . The dates are from mid 5th January 2026 to 3/4th March 2025.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Only to take care of and feed two cats and look after the property ; ideally someone who enjoys a bit of gardening. The cats were community cats but now are domesticated and affectionate

What are the good features of the property and location

The location is in a small hamlet of 20 houses that sits on a hill overlooking the Charente river. Although rural with farmland offering beautiful countryside walks or cycling opportunities, the nearest town Mansle is 7km away with many facilities, 2 super markets and various restaurants. Plus walking distance from the house a fuel garage with groceries shop, a pharmacy, hair dresser, first class restaurant and local train.
There is free wifi with a signal sufficiently strong for work purposes. Plus access via Amazon Fire Stick to multiple streaming platforms .... Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. Also all digital English TV channels are available

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Two main considerations: Firstly the duration of the sit. 8 weeks is a long time to commit to and I will be several thousand miles away in Hong Kong. However it is a close community here and my neighbours will always be happy to help with any questions you might have. So ideally you need some French or a really good translater app. The second thing is the winter weather. It doesn't get very cold (-5 very occasionally ) but it can be damp. The house has electric heating in all rooms plus a log burner in the lounge so it can be very cosy. There is off road parking and you will ideally have a car. However withing easy walking distance there is not only a great restaurant, a fishing lake, a fuel garage with shop and tabac, the local train for links to Poitiers and Angouleme plus bus services, and a post office
