Christmas in the Charente France. A friendly and picturesque community in Luxé

About this assignment

Looking for cat loving,house sitter / sitters who would like to spend up to 2/3 weeks in the heart of the Charente, France over the Christmas season. The dates are not fixed yet but likely to be 16th December to 5th January or ,possibly longer for those without children and have the time.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Only to look after the property and take care of and feed the two cats; one male and one female both black and neutered.. The cats were community cats but now are domesticated and affectionate Ideally the sitter/ sitters will enjoy a bit of gardening

What are the good features of the property and location

The location is a small hamlet of 20 houses that sits on a hill overlooking the Charente river. Although rural with farmland offering beautiful countryside walks or cycling opportunities, the nearest town Mansle is 7km away with many facilities, 2 super markets and various restaurants. Plus walking distance from the house is a fuel garage with a grocery shop, also in walking distance is a Doctor, pharmacy, hair dresser,first class restaurant, fishing lake and cafe/restaurant, post office and local train between serviing Poitiers and Angouleme where TGV fast trains to Bordeaux and Paris start.


The house has two bedrooms available ( one double, one twin which have exclusive use of one ensuit and both shower and toilet on landing area)..Also a sofa bed in the second lounge. There is free wifi with a signal sufficiently strong for any work purposes. you would also have access via Amazon Fire Stick to multiple streaming platforms .... Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. Also all digital English TV channels are available.No french channels yet .

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Two main considerations: Firstly the duration of the sit. 4 weeks is a long time to commit to and I will be 3hrs away. However it is a close community here and my neighbours will always be happy to help with any questions you might have. So ideally you should have some French for shopping. The neighborhood is mostly French but some Dutch, Belgium and some English is spoken . The second thing is the climate. December can be pleasant. The chilly weather arrives in January. The house has electric resources and log burner... dual fuel cooker, 2 hotwater tanks, 2 fridge freezers. The house itself is made of stone with very thick walls so the bedrooms, living rooms and kitchen keep the generated heat.

Ideally you will have a car for big shopping and exploring the region.. There is off road parking opposite the house and it's possible to bring a smallish .car onto the property .

I will still be resident on your arrival, ideally a couple of days before I leave so I can talk you through everything.
This a beautiful rural area with lots of walk options on or off the river routes kayaking is also done here along with fishing so make sure you have the right kit.

It's the Festive season. The French enjoy their Christmas along with all the international traditions. There is a beautiful small local Church in walking distance. There is accommodation for 4 people in bedrooms plus a sofa bed for one adult or younger children.
