About this assignment

We’re looking for mature, responsible sitters who genuinely enjoy animals and quiet, natural surroundings. This is a peaceful rural home, so it suits people who are happy with a slower rhythm and who don’t mind spending most of their time at home. Ideally you’ll be retired or working from home, as our dog and cats shouldn’t be left alone for long periods.

We’d love someone caring, calm and reliable, who enjoys the company of animals and will keep their routines steady while we’re away. A couple may be ideal, simply because the routines are easier to share, but a single sitter who enjoys calm days at home would also be very welcome.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The main responsibility is caring for our dog and three cats and keeping their routines steady. They are all gentle and easy to live with, but they do have their own rhythms. The cats are fed three times a day, and the dog has a short morning walk and a longer, relaxed walk in the afternoon. The animals shouldn’t be left alone for long periods, so this sit suits someone who enjoys quiet days at home.

There are also a few simple household tasks: keeping an eye on the place, watering a few plants, and making sure the home stays clean, safe and comfortable. It’s a straightforward routine in a very peaceful rural setting.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our home is in a small, quiet urbanisation about 15 minutes from both Tarifa and Algeciras. It sits between the Estrecho and Los Alcornocales Natural Parks, with wide views across the Strait towards Morocco and Ceuta. The property has a 2,000 m² garden in a front‑row position, with a mix of natural areas, a vegetable garden and a small pond.

The house itself is an eco‑friendly build, comfortable and surrounded by nature. There are plenty of walking possibilities right from the door, and the beaches around Tarifa are not far away. It’s an ideal place for nature lovers who enjoy peace, space and a quiet stay.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This sit is best for someone who is happy spending most of their time at home. Our dog and three cats can be left for up to four hours, but not every day, and their routines come first. They are gentle and easy to live with, but they do rely on a steady rhythm.

A car is very helpful. There is public transport, but it’s limited, and most people find it easier to get around by car. Shops, beaches and both Tarifa and Algeciras are about 15 minutes away.

The house has radiators, but in winter the wood fireplace in the living room is the main source of heat, so being comfortable using it is important.

This is a quiet, peaceful place, ideal for nature lovers who enjoy calm days at home with animals.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Amazing House / Pet Sit

This was an incredible house sit, and I was welcomed into Mick and Maren’s home with open arms. From the moment I arrived, I felt truly comfortable and relaxed. I came a couple of days early to get to know them and their beautiful animals—Habana, Bibi, Raya, and Monty and I’m so grateful for that time. Each of the pets had their own amazing personalities, and I especially loved the morning and evening walks with Habana. She’s a local celebrity, everyone in the village knows her and always stops to say hello! Mick and Maren gave me a detailed tour of the house and garden area, which helped me feel right at home and confident once they left. Their clear and thoughtful instructions made caring for their "tribe" easy and really enjoyable. The home itself is stunning and unique, with amazing views stretching toward Morocco. It truly felt like a home away from home. I arrived as someone caring for their animals, but left feeling like a friend. Mick and Maren went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable, and I’ll always be grateful for their wonderful hospitality. I hope to return one day as the animals and this experience will always hold a special place in my heart - thank you! Mei X
