About this assignment
We are looking for a "cat person" to care for our 2 cats and feed a feral cat colony . The dates listed include the day before we travel and the day after we travel, so that we can show the sitter the routine and get settled in our apartment . The cats (Lena and Sebastien) are easy going and need only food, attention, a bit of playing and someone to scoop their boxes. The feral cats need to be fed twice per day.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
We have 2 cats, 7 and 17 years old. Feed cats dry food 2x per day and wet food 3x per day. Scoop litter box daily. Vacuum every 2 days (cats shed a lot).
Water the plants (we will leave instruction) every couple of days
IMPORTANT - we feed a feral colony 750 meters from our apartment. The ferals must be fed in the morning and evening. The colony is in a safe location, across from the Devesa Park.
What are the good features of the property and location
Girona is a lively town of 100,000 people with easy train (and bus) access to Barcelona. The high speed train takes 40 minutes to get to Barcelona downtown from Girona.
Girona has a magnificent medieval center (Barri Vell) with narrow winding streets (20 minutes walk). Scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed her. Vibrant cafes and good restaurants line the streets. Our apartment is a 15 minute walk to the main square (Placa Independencia)
Girona is close to the beaches of Costa Brava and you can see the Pyrenees mountains. The are frequent buses to the beaches. The closest beach is Sant Feliu de Guixols which is about 50 minutes by bus)
It is a bicycling hot spot - with many people taking cycling vacations. There are many places to rent bikes
Our apartment is a 7 minute walk from the train/bus station (with high speed AVE trains). Girona has an airport - served mostly by RyanAir. Barcelona airport has direct flights from almost anywhere
Our apartment is spacious and sun filled. It has 2 large balconies. The balcony in the living area is south facing and is warm even in winter. The apartment has a kitchen, dining area, living room and a separate office. There is a guest bedroom and guest bathroom.
Apartment has AC and heat. Appliances include, washer, dishwasher, microwave, oven, fridge, induction stove and air fryer. We have wifi and a 55" smart TV (Amazon Prime and Disney plus).
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
IMPORTANT - We feed a feral colony 750 meters from the apartment - so you will walk 3km per day. The ferals must be fed in the morning and evening. The colony is in a safe location, across from the Devesa Park.....and you walk past several lively cafes to and from the apartment. So you can have a coffee (or wine) after feeding the cats! The colony is also "along the way" when walking to Placa Independencia (the main square) or Bari Vell (the medieval quarter) from our apartment.

We recently had the pleasure of staying in James and Irena's apartment in Girona and looking after their three house cats and nearby feral cats. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel feel welcome, and at home. We had clear written instructions and they were always available to answer any questions. The apartment was comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed.The house cats and feral cats were a joy to look after and the location was great, with easy access to the old town, public transportation and a variety of shops and restaurants nearby. Sweet cats in Girona
It was pleasant to stay in the appartment of Irena and James and care for their 4 cats. The appartment is spacious and comfortable and full of light, with nice large balconies at both sides. I particularly liked the guestroom that is a Zen experience, with balcony and private bathroom. The building is situated on short walking distance of the railway and bus station, with supermarkets all around and a 10 min walk to the historical centre. The cat family consists of Sebastien who is a sweet senior with health issues but still mostly interested in food, while black Lena the youngest is quite social, asking for caresses and to play with her. She always came greeting at the door and would sit with me on the balcony. And there's fragile Benji who had an unfortunate start of life and stays in the master bedroom, attached to Irena only. Irena and James are devoted cat rescue volunteers already for a great part of their lives and offer temporary shelter as well. This time kitten Sofia was taken in for socialization and hopefully to find a permanent home for her. Her mum still lives in the abandoned garden opposite city parc with 4 others, and these feral cats are being fed morning and evening, again a 10 min walk. It was interesting and rewarding to participate for a while in this cat world and I thank Irena and James for their trust. They are a kind, hospitable and socially active couple. Living in the very nice Catalan city of Girona.

House and Pet Sitting Girona Spain Dec/Jan 2024/25
James and Irene asked us to care for their 4 house cats and feral cat colony located in a nearby vacant lot. They gave us good instructions and walked us through all the many routines for both the cat locations. We were already in Girona before we started our assignment so we met with them a few times socially which we enjoyed. They have a very nice apartment with all the modern conveniences. It is about a 15 minute walk into the central plaza and the old city which we visited often. Girona is a charming city, friendly people, great restaurant's and full of history.
