About this assignment

We're looking for a non-smoking cat sitter or sitter(s) if a couple, to stay at our home and take care of our gorgeous two indoor cats and our home whilst we are away.

We keep a tidy clean home, do not smoke, and take good care of the things we have and would want similar conscientious people to be staying in our home. Sitters must be competent in administering medication (via tablet) as Delilah needs asthma meds every other day. to look after our gorgeous two house cats, Uhtred and Delilah the Russian Blues. They are very different cats but both need attention in different ways that your regular moggie may not!

Uhtred: an outgoing big brute who is pretty easy going and playful, will thank you for lots of cuddles, lap-time, play time and general human connection.

Delilah: a timid little girl who will hide under the bed to begin with! Warms to you after a while and needs her space to eat separately to Uhtred so he doesn't gobble up her food. She also likes attention once she trusts you, in the form of playtime and back scratches, but hates being picked up! She also needs an asthma every other day, which is best given in a pill pocket treat.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We play with the cats separately once or twice per day for around 15 minutes, in the late morning sometimes, but most importantly just before bed (so no midnight zoomies!) - a good feather toy, Uhtred plays chase with his little duck, or a game of mousey! They like to be stimulated as they are strictly indoor-only cats.

We feed them wet and dry food morning and evening as they are not free-fed, so they'll have their meals around 7:30am and 5pm. It's ok if you are out and about at these times, we sometimes are too, so as close to these as possible is best, and so long as have human connection throughout the stay, they are fine to be left alone for a good few hours (say 9-4, or an evening - we go out and leave them to snooze too!).

Water is changed daily (human glasses in 3 locations around the house - their choice not ours!). Litter is clumping so poops and wees scooped out and put in the outside bin twice a day, litter is changed and fully cleaned once every 2-3 weeks.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our home is a lovely terraced 3-bed with a king size bed (with 2-year old luxury Emma mattress) in the master suite and the other two bedrooms used as studio/office spaces for both of us as we work as content creators. We have a large lounge and kitchen-diner, conservatory that is very sunny in the Summer, paved garden with plenty of plants which gets lovely afternoon sunlight, and a driveway big enough for one car at the front.

We live on a main road, with the local post office a short walk away in one direction, butchers and wine shop within spitting distance, and the village of Marple Bridge a short 10-minute walk away with the sweetest array of local independents, pubs, a pharmacy, newsagents, cafe and other great local amenities. Further up the road is the canal which is a stunning walk with the many locks at Marple locks, and the bigger village of Marple (approx 1-mile away), with bigger Supermarkets, a theatre and a small High Street with various stores.

Manchester City centre is a half-hour drive in non-peak times, or 20-minute train journey away, and the start of the Peak District is 20 minutes in the opposite direction with 100s of stunning walks, trails and cute villages to explore.

We're surrounded by beautiful hills and the Goyt Valley, with oodles of choice for walkers, runners and cyclists. We're also spoilt for local restaurants, cafes and independent pubs - we will leave a list of recommendations!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

I think we covered pretty much everything. My partner and I will be away in the states (Arizona) for this trip so will be -8 hours behind the UK but always contactable for emergencies and enjoy regular cat updates.

We've had three longer-term sitters before - two for 3 months and one for 6 weeks and both went very smoothly thanks to great communication and respect on both sides.

Any questions please reach out!

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

Thank you for a lovely experience

I cared for these two beautiful Russian Blue cats for 3 months in 2025. It was such a wonderful experience. Uhtred and Delilah are so sweet and 100% indoor cats, so was no worries for me for their safety. They were friendly from day 1, but I was there long enough to really bond with them and miss them very much. Uhtred is such a smart boy and fun to play games with. Delilah is more demure but also plays well. She requires medicine which was extremely easy to give to her every time as a treat. They both are lap cats and love to get some petting and purring time in each day. They have lots of toys in the house and special places where they will take a nap together. The home owners made me feel very welcome and left very good instructions for kitty care, home care, and community information. I didn't have any problems, but know that I could communicate easily and quickly as needed. I LOVED this assignment! Thank you for allowing me to care for your sweet fur-babies.
