About this assignment
We are looking for a person or couple to take care of our many houseplants and to ensure our driveway remains clear of snow. We are going away for eight weeks so we want to feel at ease knowing that someone responsible is taking care of our home.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Ideally the housesitter will be a plant person and will water the plants as required, use the snowblower to clear the snow from the driveway, and use a shovel to clear a path for our two tenants. The house sitter will keep the place clean and tidy.
What are the good features of the property and location
We are located in trendy Westboro which is quite central. The neighbourhood has many great shops, cafes, and restaurants. Our two bedroom house is colourful, full of artwork, comfortable and spacious. It has a large office with windows which is perfect for a remote worker.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
The duties for this assignment are minimal. However, potential house sitters need to consider that they will share an entrance with the tenant that lives in the basement.
Can I bring my own pets?

Yes, winter in Ottawa, Canada, can be a blast!
A comfortable home in a friendly neighborhood, within an easy walk in three directions to public transit. An artistic home surrounding us with eclectic art and musical instruments and a whole bunch of O2 breathing plants, including a slew of orchids that, phew, thankfully, kept blooming! We enjoyed two months watching after Michelle and Malcolm's home and plants ... in the depth of winter ... :-) .... It was great. With no animals to watch after, we were able to visit both Montreal and Quebec City for a few days each. Worth the train trips, for sure. Bring appropriate clothing! Michelle and Malcolm kept in close touch and were on the phone with us when attention was needed. We appreciated their attention to our questions, the detailed "things to do" list and directions, and the "ride around" they gave us as a quick orientation to Ottawa and their specific neighborhood. If you have the opportunity to house sit for them, take it!

Wonderful Hosts & Home!
Where to begin? From the moment I arrived, until Michelle and Malcolm’s return, my house-sitting experience in their beautiful and cozy home in Ottawa has been nothing short of wonderful!!! “The stars aligned perfectly” the three of us joked. Despite the harsh winter month during which I arrived, they provided me with all the necessary information (re: plant watering schedules and all other logistics: home, neighborhood, transportation, etc.), AND the perfect opportunity for me to focus on my writing and work. Surrounded by Michelle’s beautiful plants, and the warmth of their lovely home, I could not have asked for a more perfect setting/scenario. We kept in touch during their vacation, with Michelle even sharing some beautiful pictures and updates from their travels (while I couldn’t resist sending them pictures of their beautiful orchids as they began to bloom). Michelle and Malcolm are the kindest of hosts - it was an absolute pleasure and joy to have been welcomed into their home. Should another house-sitting opportunity arise here - I strongly recommend! THANK YOU so much Michelle and Malcolm for this wonderful opportunity, it’s been a great pleasure indeed! THANK YOU!!!
