About this assignment

Someone reliable and caring who loves cats, keeps things tidy, and ensures my furry friends are happy, healthy and well-looked after while we are away.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feeding and caring for the cats, cleaning their litter once every 3 days, giving them attention, watering the plants, and notifying me of any issues that arise.

What are the good features of the property and location

Specious house in a calm and friendly neighbourhood, well connected to Amsterdam city by bus and train. Six mins walk to grocery and other shops.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The assignment is for 18days, overlaps with Christmas and New Year. On the New Years eve, the neighbourhood can gets quite noisy; so we will really appreciate if the cats are not left alone on the New Years Eve. Our neighbour/friend can drop by once or twice as we are quite well-connected.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Nice cat-sit in the Amsterdam area

I cat-sat for Sara in Nieuw-Vennep, a small suburb where she, her husband, and their two cats, Puma and Lilly, live. The house is nice and comfortable, and both cats are sweet. Puma is especially cuddly. He likes to sit on you and demands attention, and that's pretty cute. Location-wise, it's not the most ideal place, as reaching Amsterdam takes more than an hour: walking 1.5 km to the bus station and then about a 55-60 minute ride to Amsterdam's center. But at least it's a direct bus (that comes every few minutes), so you don't have to switch between different lines to get to your destination. The train station is 1.8 km away, and from there you can quickly get to the nice town of Leiden, which is worth a visit. Anyway, as staying in a decent place in Amsterdam nowadays is so pricey, this location might still be good enough, even though it's not a central location and demands a bit of walking, no matter where you're headed. Communication with Sarah and her husband was smooth, and they always replied quickly to queries (not that there were many; she sent a detailed manual for the place). So, generally, a positive experience.

Nice time with two cats, Puma and Lilly

I had a wonderful time in Nieuw-Vennep, together with Puma and Lilly, two beautiful, well-groomed and very social cats. Contact with the homeowners, Sarah and Safat, was always very good and smooth. The house is equipped with every comfort, clean, spacious and located in a quiet neighborhood. There is a wide range of shops within walking distance, as well as public transport. Very practical and easy to visit Amsterdam or another beautiful city. In short: a pleasant experience that is worth repeating.
