About this assignment

We have bought a property in Portugal and are in the process of giving new life to this beautiful place.
Beside a lot of work this means for us also that we
still have to commute to get the money to finance this project.
We would like the house to be habitated the time we can not be there and share it in a friendly and respectful way
during the handover days.There is enough space in and around the house.
You should be a responsible, honest, practical and caring person/s, love nature and the outdoor life.
We would prefer non smokers and no party people. Summer is very dry, so there is danger of fire in and around the house.You should have an own income source, an own occupation and you need an own health cover.
We prefer if you have previous experience in housesitting and have recommendations from others.
At the moment there is our cat family to look after.

4-6 months between 1.of December 2025 to 31.of April 2026

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

You will be responsible for our property, in particular keeping it inhabited being present.
So you need to have your own interests and occupations.
You are expected to take care of the house and the surroundings, like cleaning around the house, keep tidy the house, look after our 3 cats, watering some plants and to be friendly and respectful to the neighbours.
A little bit Portuguese or Spanish cold be useful, but not necessary.
We would like you to check our mailbox and stay in contact with us by mail or WhatsApp on a regular base.

What are the good features of the property and location

The location and house are fabulous if you love rural living.
It is very quiet and private, but not isolated.
The house and various outbuildings (an atelier and a nearly finished cottage) occupy the centre of the land.
It is surrounded by wonderful oak trees, small paddocks and gently sloping terraces with granite stone retaining walls, olive grove, fruit trees, vines and there is abundant water (springs, wells, main water). The whole property is enclosed with granite stone walls. A quite good access road and plenty of parking possibilities.
The beautiful, characterful, at least 300 years old, stone farmhouse is lovely renovated and has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, an eating room, a nice living room with great views and wood burning stoves. There is a fridge, a washing machine and a ADSL internet connection. It is the perfect place to relax, get away from all kinds of stress and it is a fabulous inspirational working environment if you go after an occupation, like writing, translating, project planning, designing, home work or study, taking photos etc.
This beautiful place is within the limits of one of Portugals natural parks, providing you amazing scenery, quiet roads, peaceful countryside, but also it is in a culturally rich area with historical villages. 
It is a lovely place to go walking, ideal to cycling, wildlife and birdwatching and go swimming.Only few minutes walking there is a very nice, wild river.
At night the stars are an awesome sight as there is no light pollution and very few humidity in the air. 
The nearest small village can be reached by foot in 5 min. a major town, where you can find supermarkets, restaurants, banks, schools, swimming pools, doctors....etc. is 15 min drive away.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

In exchange for living in a very nice and quiet place....we ask for a few important tasks that belong to it like check regularly our mailbox and prepay the bills.
Bills - we will pay standing orders on property taxes, electricity, water and internet, etc. and the house sitter is to pay the cost of the utilities consumed by him during the assignment.
To ensure the sitter stays the length of the agreed time without leaving an eventual damage and repair costs,
we let us the possibility open to require a security deposit .
There is limited public transport, so it is advantageous to have an
own CAR to get around.
But also with bicycles you can move easily if you are used to.
Be aware that it can be cold in winter and sometimes rainy, but normally the weather is nice and the days are sunny.
