About this assignment

Looking for cat lovers (we have 7 of them!), with experience with senior cats (1 needs bi-weekly medication), reliable, clean, non-smoker, vegan is a plus.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Basically, we need pet sitting for our 7 cats (feeding them twice a day, letting them out in the day and back in at night), watering outdoor vase plants, feeding twice a day the small outdoor cat colony. One senior cat needs medication for kidney problems, including two weekly jabs, easily and quickly administered. For additional house cleaning a cleaning lady may be arranged during your stay (on top of a cleaning robot already available for cleaning routines on ground floor level, the most affected by dust and cats hair).

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is a 2-storey renovated farmhouse: large kitchen, pantry, sitting room, bathroom and storage room on ground floor; bathroom, 2 bedrooms, 2 study rooms and relax room on first floor. It is situated on the hills of Monferrato, 1-hour's drive from Turin and 30 min. from Asti, in a lovely hilly part of Piedmont renowned for his wines. The back of the house opens out on a mid-sized garden with lots of hydrangeas. In the garden, a couple of deck chairs and a beach umbrella provide some shade in the hot summer days. It's very quiet with a view on the distant Alps. There is a guest bedroom with double bed for you, and plenty of space to work in if you are planning to do smart working from our home. It is not a luxury home, rather a lived-in, warm environment, with lots of books and music (English literature, Chinese culture, feng-shui, theatre, queer culture...). An Italian-speaking local contact will be available for emergencies , though we will be reachable at all times via Whatsapp.
The area is rural, with some trekking facilities, though reasonably close to cities and towns with historical and cultural interest. A public swimming pool is situated 20 minutes drive away, in Crescentino.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

7 cats do mean some work to do, but this mainly refers to meal times, twice a day (and frequent cleaning of litters). Our cats are used to going out in the garden in the daytime, though we prefer them to be indoors at night. Two senior cats have special dietary needs and one needs some medication for kidney problems. If you want to explore the area many lovely places are within reach for daily trips; however, a car is needed because of lack of public transport. The same applies for local shopping.
