About this assignment

Looking for a cat lover with experience also with senior cats (2 of ours are), reliable, clean, non-smoker, vegan is a plus. Perhaps a couple, with some knowledge of Italian, though not indispensable.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We need pet sitting for our 8 cats, watering outdoor vase plants as well as our small patch of vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini), feeding the small outdoor cat colony. For major house cleaning a cleaning lady will be available during your stay.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is a 2-storey renovated farmhouse on the hills of Monferrato, 1-hour's drive from Turin and 30 min. from Asti, in a lovely hilly part of Piedmont renowned for his wines. The back of the house opens out on a mid-sized garden with lots of hydrangeas and a tiny vegetable patch at a lower level. It's very quiet with a view on the distant Alps. There is a guest bedroom with double bed for you, and plenty of space to work in if you are planning to do smart working from our home. It is not a luxury home, but a lived-in, warm environment, with lots of books and music (some of our favourite subjects are English literature, Chinese classical culture, feng-shui, theatre, queer culture...). An Italian-speaking local contact would be available for help in case of need , though we will be reachable at all times via Whatsapp.
The area is rural, with some trekking facilities, but reasonably close to cities and towns with historical and cultural interest. A public open-air swimming pool with bar facilities offers a welcoming relief from the summer heat in a village close by.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

8 cats can be quite a handful, therefore our slight preference for couples. Our cats are used to going out in the garden in the daytime, but we prefer them to be indoors at night. Two senior cats have some special dietary needs. If you want to explore the area many lovely places are within reach for daily trips, but a car is needed because of lack of public transport. The same applies for local shopping.
