Bugsy (dog) is 14 years old, he is fit and healthy. Pickle does much of her own thing.
Someone who loves pets especially a senior dog. Tidy and respectful of the house. Enjoys walking. Someone who enjoys the garden but doesn't have to have gardening skills
Walk Bugsy twice per day. Feed Bugsy and Pickle and make sure they have fresh water each day. Water the plants if the weather hot. Close the electric gate at night. Bugsy may ask to go out in the night depending on how early you retire to your bed.
Private garden, walk straight from the house into countryside. Guest bedroom with ensuite. We are located in the middle of the triangle of Basingstoke, Newbury and Reading. Small village with Church and hairdressers. Bucklebury Farm Park close by and a coffee shop. Lovely small towns to visit such as Hungerford and Pangbourne
We are situated in a village, there is no shop in the village. Housesitters would need to have a vehicle. Pickle, the cat will on occasions will catch a mouse and leave it as a present for you. Both Bugsy and Pickle are fed on raw meat, it is from a natural dog food company.
No, sorry.

Mark, Karen, Bugsy & Pickle – A Special Chapter
My four weeks with Mark & Karen were truly one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had in the UK. From the very first day, they made me feel at home. Not like a volunteer, but like part of their family. They are kind, respectful, generous, and they live in such a peaceful and beautiful place that naturally makes you slow down and reflect. Caring for Bugsy was a gift. He is the sweetest senior dog, full of loyalty and quiet wisdom. Spending time with him — walking, sitting in the garden, or simply working while he rested beside me — taught me so much about presence and consistency. He has such a gentle soul and made every day special. And Pickle, their lovely cat, is independent and adorable in her own unique way. At first she keeps her distance, but with patience she slowly lets you into her world. Watching her bond with Bugsy is something truly heartwarming. Living in their home gave me not only a great volunteering experience, but also space to think, grow, and find peace. Their marriage and the way they’ve built a calm, loving life together inspired me deeply. Without a doubt, this has been my best time in the UK. I leave with a full heart and so much gratitude. Thank you, Mark, Karen, Bugsy & Pickle — you will always have a special place in my heart. Rene

Lovely pets, owners and home with doorstep down and woodland walks
I was fortunate enough to be chosen to pet and housesit for a couple of weeks in frosty December and we had a fine time together. Bugsy is an incredibly youthful old lab, full of sniff and play, but quite willing to spend time in his bed with toys. Pickle is a purry cat who enjoys company (but not cuddling thank you) and a warm room. The house is in a village well situated for several walks over downland and through woods and over streams. Karen and Mark are extremely helpful and attentive owners who left a comprehensive print out of necessary info. The frosty mornings were no problem with a decent pair of boots and the ability to get an open fire going. Those without vehicle could use the occasional community bus service to get to supermarkets in nearby towns. Neighbours were friendly and offered help if needed, but all went well due to adequate preparation by the owners. The house is very groovy and you should have your own 'wing'! It is already disappointing not to be greeted in the morning by Bugsy's wagging tail colliding with the venetian blinds.

House sit in Brimpton
We enjoyed our recent house sit for Karen & Mark. They are a very friendly and welcoming couple & made sure everything was OK for our stay. We arrived the day before in order to be au fait with the pet requirements and to get to know the house. The house is quite large but comfortable and is in a very quiet village location. The dog, Bugsy and the cat, Pickle were absolutely no trouble at all. There is a very large, open expanse of land just a short walk, via the church cemetery, from the house and this is where we took Bugsy twice a day for his walks. Just about every dog walker we met knew him and those who did not were amazed at how obedient and well behaved he was. House sitting is 90% about looking after pets and Bugsy & Pickle were the best. If you are looking for an "easy" sit, then this has to be at the top of the list and I would strongly recommend this. Bugsy is a senior dog but we are hoping to see him again, should we be be asked to return. Maureen & Keith October 2025

Outstanding hosts
Mark and Karen were excellent hosts and provided everything and more than required for a trouble free sit. Bugsy the Dog and Pickle the Cat were absolutely charming and trouble free. The house was extremely comfortable, and the bedroom was more than adequate with very a comfortable bed and pillows. All in all, the assignment was enjoyable with a lovely garden to potter around in and play with Bugsy. Walking Bugsy was a joy with amazing scenery and loop walks. Thank you Mark and Karen for the opportunity to experience your lovely home and pets and also our farewell meal. Brian and Lisette.
