About this assignment

We are looking mainly for a dog sitter so Syd can be at home while we are away. We prefer a couple/pair but will definitely consider one person if you're happy to adhere to Syd's schedule (greyhounds love routine). We would expect people that will look after our place responsibly and clean up after themselves and generally leave the flat as it was on arrival. Also, people that will give us little updates on how things are going and who will not be afraid to reach out if help or advice is needed or something goes a bit wrong. Water houseplants and possibly a bit of the garden if really dry. Gardening optional as you desire.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feeding Syd twice a day (9 am and 4pm ish) and two 30-40 min walks daily (around 7-7:30 in the morning and between 5:30 and 7 pm in the evening unless it is too hot then the evening walk would be delayed until cooler (21 C or less). He can be left alone during the day but will need to be let out at least once between breakfast and dinner. He can also be left alone in the evenings after his evening walk for several hours (until 11 pm).

Watering house plants (15), general cleaning up after yourself.

What are the good features of the property and location

We'd love to share our lovely little home and larger garden on a quiet street yet conveniently located 4 min walk to Earlfield station with direct service to main stations Clapham Junction, Vauxhall, Waterloo and Wimbledon (all within 3-15 min). You'll love the garden and working or relaxing in the summerhouse where you can regularly see ducks, moorhens, and the occasional grey heron, snowy egret or cormorant fishing. If you like gardening feel free to prune, weed or whatever. If not, don't worry we don't expect gardening, just watering of houseplants and possibly some outside watering if particularly dry.

Earlsfield has a village feel, with several great pubs, some great cafes, bakeries and coffee shops. Also a few good pizza places and a good family run fish and chips place. There are a few good charity shops as well if that's your thing. All of these are within 3-10 min walk. So easy to get to central London. Our local/closest park within about 5 min walk and two other larger parks within 12-15 min walk. The local park has new, outdoor fitness equipment, ping pong tables and basketball court. Along with football pitch, picnic tables, little garden and children's play area. Wimbledon Common is 12 min drive.

Our summerhouse is a great place to work with fast wifi, an adjustable, sit/staning desk and large screen you can connect to your laptop. The desk has view of the river. Syd has a fold our sofa bed in there and it is his favourite place to be and watch/protect you from squirrels. We have a portable air conditioner (or heater in winter) as it can get very hot inside. It's a bit noisy but it is necessary on hot and sunny days and you'll be thankful for it. This can be brought into the flat if needed. There's also a small digital radio in there that has bluetooth to connect to play music from devices.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

If you are two people that are not a couple, this is a one bedroom flat with one bed but it is a super king with memory foam so if you're friends or relatives that don't mind sharing bed, it's really comfortable and spacious. Being near the train line means you will hear the trains regularly. It's not window shaking, offensively loud but worth noting. We don't notice it most of the time but we're city folk and been here for 7 years. Again, it is a lovely garden with nature but you'll never forget you're in London! ;)

Syd is a greyhound and with millennia of genetic evolution and being bred/taught to race/chase, he gets excited when he sees squirrels, cats and foxes. He can go from zero to 10 on excitement scale in a second which can catch you off guard. A calm yet firm demeanour is required to distract or redirect attention or route on walks. Honestly 99% of the time he's easy like Sunday morning but maybe not for people who haven't had much experience with sighthounds or larger breeds. He's good on lead (he's a fast walker) and will mostly ignore or have only mild interest in other dogs in passing.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
