Marin County/NorCal Mid-Century Home Seeking Garden-Loving Caretaker(s) for 6 Months

About this assignment

Conscientious, responsible individual or couple to enjoy a half-year in beautiful Marin County, just north of San Francisco. We have no pets, but looking for someone who enjoys caretaking plants and a low-maintenance garden. You’ll look after our indoor plants, oversee outdoor plant maintenance (mostly on automated drip irrigation), and ensure house is cared for and occupied while owners are in Europe. Ideal for remote workers and/or retired individuals.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Watering indoor plants and some outdoor potted plants, checking to see no issues with drip irrigation system (outside gardener available to help), taking in mail, dealing with any unforeseen maintenance issues, checking-in weekly or as needed with homeowners by text message and/or email.

What are the good features of the property and location

Lovely mid-century modern 3 bedroom, 2 bath home in a quiet residential neighborhood in lovely Marin County, with a view of iconic Mount Tamalpais. Home is solar-powered with a modern kitchen, washer and dryer, fast Wifi and a Smart TV. Home office set up for remote workers. House is a half mile from a nice independent grocery store, and a mile from San Anselmo shops and restaurants. There is a Marin Transit bus stop servicing Marin County, with access to ferries and San Francisco. Home is also walking distance to San Rafael and the SMART train station, with service to Marin and Sonoma counties. It is a very walkable and bikeable community (if you enjoy hills), but a car will permit more exploration and access to beaches and trails. Marin County is the birthplace of mountain biking (home to the Marin Museum of Mountain Biking) and a mecca for road, gravel and mountain bike enthusiasts. Also a wonderful area for hiking and trail running, 15 miles from San Francisco, and easy access to Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Pacific Ocean beaches. Possibility of use of a 2015 vehicle, to be determined.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This assignment would tentatively run from April 1-September 30, 2026. Strong preference for sitters already based in California or with previous house sitsin the area. There are no pets so if you really want to pet sit, this is not a good fit. It is contingent upon the owners obtaining a long-term visa for Europe which would not be confirmed until sometime in February 2026. Dates may also shift slightly and possibly be shortened from six to five or even four months. We’d ideally like to meet our housesitter(s) in person 2 days prior to our departure to explain all the house responsibilities and anticipate interviewing potential housesitters by video call too or in person if in the area. Absences from housesitting assignment could be discussed and approved in advance.
