Portugal Cascais - One month March 2026- deaf geriatric dog needing a lot of time and care

About this assignment

I am in a bit of a pickle as my old Tom is almost 16 and he may not make it to end Feb 2026.when we need to travel. If he passes on I will honour your commitment. And you will stay in our apartment but with no dog.
However if he is still hanging on he will need a lot of time and attention. Company and slow walks. Feeding and medication. At this stage he is completely deaf and also does not see well but eats a lot and has good toilet manners. And enjoys slow, sniffing walks. So you will need a lot of patience for his slow pace and be able to stay with him a lot as he is very anxious when left alone. My son and his partner live nearby and they will be backup to give you breaks and time off to get out and about.
I have to travel as it a trip to South Africa for a wedding which I cannot miss.
I really dont want to leave Tom at this stage of his life when he really needs us but I have to go to this wedding.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Tom is geriatric. Deaf and partially sighted. He has anxiety when left alone. So caring for him is a full on experience. At this stage he enjoys a morning and evening walk. Sniffing at a slow pace. He sleeps a lot in between and can be left for about an hour or so at a time.
He needs your company, feeding, medication at each meal and drection to go out to the toilet.

What are the good features of the property and location

Cascais is a lovely coastal town in Portugal. Our apartment is in a condo with a gym,indoor heated pool and steamroom. It is walking distance to a coastal walk. And about 20 minutes walk to the town centre.
There is a fine supermarket 10 min walk away.
There are lovely beaches and forests nearby.
My son and his partner will be available to stay with Tom a few times so that you can have some time to get out and explore.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Please kmow that Tom may not make it until end Feb 2026 and you will have a month with no dog.
But if he is still alive then he will need you to be with him a lot. That means staying home with him and this may be frustrating to many sitters who like to be out and about exploring. So if you have work to do and want a comfortable place then this may work out for you.
