About this assignment

*For the upcoming sit the dogs will not be at the home and a car will not be available. A car is highly recommended either via rental or public taxi service.

Steve is from the US, Despina from Australia. We are both retired and we moved to Greece at the end of 2023.

We share our home with two Chihuahuas and a Greek Shepard that we adopted here when he was a puppy. There are 2 outdoor enclosures for guinea pigs. A dozen or so stray cats and sometimes a few kittens are fed twice daily. 2 cats have been granted indoor privileges; they come and go through the pet flap but spend much of their time outdoors.

We travel frequently, from a week to a month or more. We are nonsmokers and prefer a nonsmoking sitter. If you're interested in a sit but the dates aren't quite right, we may be able to adjust for your schedule, let us know in your initial message. Please do not apply if you are unavailable for these dates just to introduce yourself and request to be considered for a future sit.

We ask that prospective sitters apply only if they can provide an established and verifiable history of positive reviews on THS or another reputable pet‑sitting platform. References, screenshots and copy/pastes into an email are not sufficient.

Occasionally when we travel to a nearby Greek islands, Despina departs a few days before I do. I sweep. I mop. I spray colorful liquids from unknown bottles onto various surfaces and wipe in circles as I've been trained to do. But as a man, my idea of “deep clean” has on 2 occasions failed to satisfy sitters who chose to express their disappointment by striking a star from the cleanliness subcategory as though delivering punishment from the Greek God Olympus himself. If a home that is not completely spotless will send you racing to deliver a 4‑star verdict, please do not apply for this sit. Let us all be spared the sorrow and inevitable disappointment that will follow.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Our 3 dogs appreciate your affection and attention but are independent for the most part. Only Buddy needs to be walked, twice per day, 1 of the 2 small dogs need to be let out a few times per day, the other uses the pet flap. Dry food and water is left out full time, wet food provided in the morning.

We listed 1 cat otherwise we would have to describe and upload 2 photos for each of the dozen or more feral cats and kittens which come and go aside from 2 that are allowed indoors and are fed twice daily. There's a litter box which isn’t used much as they are mostly outdoors and one of them regularly disappears for several days.

We listed 1 guinea pig for the same reason. 2 outdoor animal enclosures currently house 10 guinea pigs separated by gender to avoid overpopulation. Food is refilled about once per week. The auto-water stations are to be monitored and rinsed periodically. Hay is refilled daily.

Water the potted plants and wall plants that are not on the irrigation system. Periodically check the automatic irrigation system is watering all plants and there are no leaks.

Monitor pool water levels and water clarity. Remove floating surface and bottom debris using the easily operated robot vacuum and the skimmer net. The pool system is mostly automatic and doesn't require much care.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is about 10 km East of the pin on the map (that's the closest the pin can be placed). Our home is a newly renovated 3 bed/3 bath villa with swimming pool on the side of a mountain, on the coastline overlooking the Saronic Gulf and several islands. The cities of Corinth, Piraeus, and Athens are visible in the distance. It is located within a rural seaside community called Amoni, about 1.5 hours southwest of Athens in the Peloponnese region of Greece.

The three beaches within walking distance are a great place to bring the dogs. An outdoor kitchen and bathroom are adjacent to the large in ground swimming pool with sweeping unobstructed views of mountains and sea. There is an indoor and outdoor fireplace and plenty of wood in the storage bin. The property is safe and secure, enclosed by high fences with a motorized remote operated electric gate and parking in the driveway.

The two closest towns are Sofiko and Kato Almiri with numerous restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, pharmacies, bakeries, post offices and other stores. The city of Corinth is 40 minutes away, Athens is about 1.5 hours away during non peak travel times and can be easily reached via the Hellenic train from Corinth.

This area has few full time residents. It is visited by tourists and vacation homeowners on weekends and holidays mostly during peak season to enjoy the beautiful beaches and seclusion. Otherwise the area is generally very peaceful and quiet.

Within an hour's drive are numerous historical sites including Palamidi Fortress in the beautiful seaside town of Nafplion, the Ancient Theatre in Epidavros and the Corinth Canal. There are numerous waterfront cafes in these towns. The famous Ancient Acropolis of Athens is 1.5 hours away and easily done as a day trip or perhaps come early or stay later and explore Athens and other further away places.

Within a half hour are numerous small villages including the beautiful town of Korfos with waterfront restaurants and a marina full of boats.

Wifi/Internet is Starlink high speed, updated to their newest dish and router in January 2026 and is very reliable. There is a desk available for a workspace and a printer/scanner as well as a large monitor with HDMI cable.

An exterior camera mounted above the front door monitors the pool, front gate and patio area.

An irrigation system covers most of the property with the exception of some wall planters and potted plants on the front and side patio.

We are a smoke-free home and preference will be given to sitters who don't smoke or vape. There is no smoking, vaping or burning of materials aside from candles and firewood inside the home at any time.

A car is preferrable. Our car may be available for your use. We can pick up/drop off at the Corinth train station where there is a train to several cities including Athens and the airport. If you don't have a vehicle, and ours is unavailable, depending on the length of stay you may need to either rent a car, or hire a taxi to get supplies in Sofiko, although we have neighbors who would be happy to take you there when they go.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We're looking for clean, caring responsible non smoking individuals who enjoy caring for animals. We're ok with couples and families with well behaved children. Our car is usually available for your use if you're adequately licensed.

We are seeking experienced sitters with an established positive review history. Please do not apply if you cannot provide such references, nor simply to introduce yourself and express interest for future dates.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
