About this assignment

Ideally, we are looking for a cat loving couple with a reasonable knowledge of French that like a quiet countryside location. Familiarity with looking after chickens would be nice but is not essential. House sitters should be prepared to engage in regular communications as we like to have regular updates about Ralfie and anything else important.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

To look after our cat, Ralfie, and our chickens (8 adults and 5 chicks). Ralfie is an indoor cat and has never lived outside so house sitters should be familiar with keeping exit doors closed. The chicken are basically free range in their own small field and the coops have automatic doors. The house sits in a large plot of land but nothing is required externally except possible grass cutting using a ride on mower.

What are the good features of the property and location

Very quiet location with easy access to walking and cycling routes direct from the house. You can drive to either the Pyrenees mountains or to the coast/beach near Biarritz in just over an hour. Nearer to home you can enjoy exploring beautiful Basque villages and rolling countryside, as well as visiting historic towns of the Bearn such as Navarrenx, Sauveterre and Salies. All have weekly markets. The nearest large city is Pau, 40 minutes drive away. In winter the nearest ski resort is 1 hour drive away.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We are located on the edge of a small village, there is no pubic transport, nearest supermarket and boulangerie are 5km away. House sitters will therefore need to have a car. The house can be cold sometimes as we do not have central heating. Individual heating is available in each room and there is a log fire insert in the living dining room that provides a lot of general heat.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
