It's a funny, friendly gang. You will love them.
If you're looking for luxury, stop reading. If you want to live quiet, basic and outdoors for a few days or weeks, this may be the place you're looking for. We'll have to plan a short visit to the Netherlands and can set exact dates taking your availability into account. You can use the guesthouse, that's situated in a corner of the property, sepperate from our house, for a few more days than the actual sit, if that's convenient for you.
Our house is small and basic inside, but with a lot of room outdoors.
There's no heavy power supply, but more than sufficient to keep the fridge running, some fans, the led lighting in and around the house and to charge phones and work on a laptop, but use of heavy power consuming devices is limited.
Because of the remote location and the number of animals, we're really looking for a couple.
Twice a day it is pet feeding time. We have got them used to variable times, which allows you to stay in bed a bit longer, or be back from a trip a bit later than planned.
Our property is almost 4000 square meters. The very friendly dogs are outdoors all day and there's no need to go walk with them. In fact they are even not used to walk on the leash.
The garden may need quite some attention. Depending on the season watering plants or mowing grass may be necessary, though after 4 years most of the grass is gone and trees have taken over.
The tortoise shows up every now and then, but sometimes you don't see her for a few days. She feed herself with the grass, but if you see her, you can give her some pellets, some fresh vegetables or a branch from the mulberry tree, which they really like. And they do appreciate a bath every now and then.
The aviary is split in 4 parts. The green cheek conures live in one of the parts. The other part is inhabited by the cockateels, ringnecks, quails, and Sammy, the very tame sun conure, who often is on Miekes shoulder instead of in the aviary. The 3rd part of the aviary is inhabited by Nuts, the squirl, who was rescued from animal trafficking by a friend and now lives with us. And the 4th part is now always open, but was the home of Jumper, a wild Drongo bird we've found with a broken wing. We let hee go after she fully recovered, but she still comes twice a day for a cricket or a meal worm.
The animals you'll get for free because they are almost daily visiting our house, are open bill storks, lapwings, kingfishers, drongos, hoopoes and many other birds. And of course there are the neighbors cows and sometimes calves.
The main house is only one room of 4 x 5 meters, hand built with a plaster of sand, clay and lime on a base of bamboo and bags filled with rice husks. In the room one double bed, a bit higher than usual so that we can enjoy the sunrise every morning without leaving it, a small work desk and some cabinets. From the room you can enter the outdoor bathroom. House and bathroom are under the big roof that covers the floor of 7 x 13 meters. So most of the living area is outdoors, but protected against sun and rain by the large roof.
If you decide to take care of our pets, you can also stay in the beautifully situated 1 room wooden guesthouse. It is built on 2 meter (6.5 feet) tall posts, so from the balcony you'll have a marvelous view over the ricefields, of the mountains near lampang and a live sunrise in the morning. The guesthouse is also very basic, but has a comfy bed, it's own solar aircon, (working only at daytime), and a fan for the evenings and nights. Underneath the house there's a living space, and an outdoor toilet and shower. The open air shower really is a great experience.
A perfect place if you want to go back to basics for some time.
There is no fiber here, but we do have an internet connection through a 4G mobile router, 10Mb/s, so sufficient for video calls, watch movies and send not to extremely big files. If you really need to work with big files or on super high speed there's a coffee shop nearby with a fast connection.
Like everything, the "kitchen" is very basic too. There's one burner and a small kitchen sink. But....there's a small shop that sells good Thai food in the village at about 600 meters. The closest village with shops is at 4km, the town of Lampang at 12km. The site can be reached by public transport, but not very easy. A car would be convenient to bring, especially if you want to visit Lampang. In some situations we will leave our car home, in which case you can use it if you have an international drivers license. But some other trips we will do by own car. If you don't have your own car, we can pick you up from Lampang bus station, railway station or airport. We have 2 good quality bicycles available.
No, sorry.

WOW
WOW. 1st the location. Beautiful place, very peaceful and quiet. You are not close to nature you are IN nature and it's wonderful. The animals are all wonderful and have their own little personalities and quirks. The routine is not strenuous and within a couple of days becomes second nature. Meike and Francois although we only briefly met them are two of the warmest, most interesting and kind hearted people we have ever met. Their story is beautiful and inspirational. Thank you so much guys for opening you special little corner of the world to us. It was an absolute pleasure and we would sit again in a heartbeat :-

I loved staying with Mieke and Françoise
I loved staying with Mieke and Françoise and getting to know them! From the very beginning, they were so open and kind, always trying to guide and help me with anything I needed. I stayed with them two days before the event, and they showed me the field, all the details of the house, the local markets and restaurants, and even rented a scooter for me to use during my stay and made a 15 pages guide with every detail needed. They are truly wonderful people who live a genuine and peaceful life surrounded by nature and the countryside. We had such pleasant and meaningful conversations. They are sincere and warm hearted individuals. The dogs are absolutely lovely, very calm and always by my side. Bella is so affectionate and gentle, Yindee is full of energy, and Tibbe made me laugh with his funny old-man quirks. The birds are incredibly affectionate too! They enjoy human company so much. I even formed a sweet connection with one of the hens, something I had never experienced before. As for Song, the tortoise, she comes and goes, but I loved watching her, as the tiny dinosaur she is, whenever she finally appeared after several days. The house is surrounded by nature, with an open living room and kitchen, something I truly enjoyed, seeing frogs and snails passing by, geckos, birds, and butterflies. It was a peaceful time, being surrounded by nature. Watching the rain at night, with the sound of cicadas and frogs, was like a symphony, sometimes so intense that I had to sleep with earplugs! For those who love simple spaces and enjoy feeling close to nature, this place is a true sanctuary. I’m taking such a beautiful memory. I hope to see you again, Mieke and Françoise, thank you for everything!

We’ve housesat for Mieke and François twice before
We’ve housesat for Mieke and François twice before and they were as lovely, easygoing, generous and helpful as ever. Mieke and François’ place has lots of open spaces and is surrounded by nature. This makes it a truly special place to be. It does come with the caveat of being rustic, but if you enjoy a natural setting, this is a wonderful experience. Their pet gang is one of a kind (more about them in our previous reviews). For us this housesit was different, as we had a tougher work schedule and that it was hot. At the end of the dry season temperatures average around 36°C. The mornings were bearable, so we worked in the open kitchen with the fans, accompanied by Tibbe, Bella, and Yindie. Luckily, the guesthouse has air conditioning, without it, neither the laptops nor we would have lasted very long. In the afternoons, we stayed in the guesthouse, which has a big bed and enough pillows to sit comfortably. Some days, we went to a nearby café that has tasty food, coffee, and air conditioning. This setup worked well with our flexible work schedule and rarely any calls. We had a SIM card with unlimited internet that was fast and reliable. Mieke and François, thanks so much for having us again. We look forward to seeing you soon! 💛

It’s the second time
It’s the second time we’ve had the pleasure of staying at Mieke and François’ place, and it has been an absolute treat. The property is unlike anywhere else, a little paradise to unwind from everything happening beyond its borders. The “pet gang,” as we like to call them, is a colorful mix of personalities. The dogs, Yindie, Bella, and Tibbe, are the guardians of the property, easygoing and always happy with receiving a cuddle. Sammy is the absolute star, sometimes a little sassy, but he’s so lovable that you can’t help but adore him. Pieke, the gentle princess, runs on pellets and neck rubs, something she will demand in the cutest way. The aviary folk, which include cockatiels, quails, ring-necked parrots, and green-cheeked conures, will always greet you with enthusiasm, sometimes even offering affectionate nibbles on the cheek. The rooster and his entourage of hens aren’t just a feast for the eyes but also pure entertainment as they roam the property. The property itself is thoughtfully curated, lovingly put together with attention to detail. However, since it’s nestled in nature, be prepared to encounter a few spider webs and occasionally brush away some dust or animal droppings. But if that doesn’t bother you, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience you shouldn’t miss. Thank you so much, Mieke and François, for hosting us again, for the great conversations, for always creating a space where people feel free to be themselves, and for being so easygoing. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

I wholeheartedly recommend them
I recently had the pleasure of house-sitting for Mieke and François in Lampang, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the beauty and tranquility of their home. They have created a true oasis of peace and comfort, going above and beyond in every aspect. The house itself is a testament to their hard work and dedication, with every detail thoughtfully designed and meticulously maintained. They are incredibly welcoming and ensured that I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. They provided clear and detailed instructions on how to care for their home and any specific needs of their property, the dogs, the birds and everything, making my stay seamless and stress-free. We also had the time to see to the local area together, including recommendations for places to visit, eat, and explore, which was incredibly helpful. The home is situated in a serene location, perfect for anyone looking to unwind and connect with nature. The surroundings are picturesque, offering a peaceful retreat while still being conveniently located near local amenities. Throughout my stay, they were always just a message away, ready to assist with any questions or concerns. Their warmth and hospitality truly made me feel like a valued guest in their home. In summary, this house-sitting experience exceeded all my expectations. Mieke and François's dedication to their home and their exceptional hospitality made this an unforgettable experience. If you have the opportunity to house-sit for them, consider yourself very fortunate. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone.

Mieke and Francois were such lovely kind people
Mieke and Francois were such lovely kind people who have built a beautiful and artistic home and property. A very calming and peaceful spot. They set us up with plenty of locations to eat and visit and plenty of places to find the supplies we needed. The 3 dogs were such loveable characters and we would often spend the afternoons in the tropical garden with them feeding the 2 large turtles. All 3 dogs love hugs. They also have an aviary with the most amazing and humerous birds . We spent about 5 weeks here on this sit and it was long enough to really get to know all the animals and their gorgeous personalities. Meike and Francois had everything set up to make it easy to take care of the property and pets. The change of pace from city living was just what we needed and it made us feel like tourists again. Thank you Meike and Francois for you help and kindness and having us in your home.

Francois & Mieke are exceptional host
Francois & Mieke are exceptional host. They are kind people and their animals are lovely. Also the place that they build is incredible, with a perfect contact with nature and a peaceful neighborhood. What I have experienced there has been an unforgettable and very enriching experience. Tibee, Tindee & Bella are very adorable dogs. Although there are also many animals to interact with in this nature paradise.

This is a completely unique sit
This is a completely unique sit & a wonderful rural Thai living experience. Mieke & François are very chilled, straightforward, refreshing hosts who have done an incredible job cultivating & shaping their jungle domain and home. It’s nestled in the padi fields with chirping birds, barking lizards & busy crickets for company. The three dogs - Tibbe, Yindee & Bella, are all gorgeous souls with zero malice & lots of affection for human company. They are independent & easy to care for. F&M also have conures, cockatiels, chickens, bantams, a bearded dragon, two giant tortoises & fish. All need food, water, cleaning & care but it’s pretty simple if you’re a little organised. You stay in the guest house which is a lovely wooden tree house in the grounds with a comfy bed. Shower & WC is outside under the stars, simple living. We had no car (my licence had expired) so used our hosts bikes which was a great way to explore slowly. Hang Chat is a nice little town with kind locals & great food in every little warung, we made many friends. You need to love the outdoors, be practical & resilient, fine with bugs, insects, lizards and the occasional rat or snake for life in the Thai countryside. It’s a real nature sit & we loved it. François & Mieke are now friends for sure, our connection and communication with them both was excellent and easy. We love the directness of Dutch folks. Mustafa and I will never forget our three weeks in Noi Nong, calling all nature & animal loving couples - this is one sit you have to do!

Miekes and François's place is a hidden paradise
Miekes and François's place is a hidden paradise where you can be surrounded by nature and animals. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by our friendly hosts and the array of furry and feathered friends. François and Mieke went above and beyond to make us feel at home, and we had some deep and thought-provoking conversations that we won't soon forget. The tasty breakfast of oats and Mocca with coconut milk was the icing on the cake. 🙃 If you're looking for a place to unwind, be surrounded by nature and animals, and have great conversations, this is the place for you. We can't wait to come back and visit Miekes, François, and their pet gang again. This is it if you're looking for a place filled with warmth, love, and hospitality. Highly recommended!
