About this assignment
Anyone who enjoys a nice, quiet neighborhood close to town with a few plants and animals to care for. Easy to work from home. Our home suits a couple or a solo traveler.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
All animals have self feeders and need a bit of affection mostly. During summer, the plants may need water and the chickens will provide eggs.
What are the good features of the property and location
Three bedroom, 3 bath home with large fenced yard in a private setting but close to friendly neighbors. Brenham is home to Blue Bell Ice Cream. We are central to Austin, Houston and close to Bryan/College Station.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
The dates are flexible as our animals are mostly self-care but enjoy a bit of attention at intervals. We strive for energy efficiency and collect rain water and use solar energy as much as possible.

I truly enjoyed my stay at Tom and Dianna’s house in Brenham. It was very clean and welcoming and I bonded right away with Gigi and Opal who were such sweet companions! It’s a great place for remote work. Tom was easy to communicate with and appreciated that I sent pictures often and spent quality time with Opal so she felt safe and loved. I will definitely go back again.

Diana and Tom are dream hosts
Diana and Tom are dream hosts. Their instructions for the care of critters and home were clear and thorough - written and texted because we did not meet until they returned. Their home is situated in a quiet subdivision and hosts not only their cat, dog and chickens, but song birds by the dozens. I spent hours on their patio with Lola, the dog, watching avian comings and goings. Mornings were my time to treasure hunt for newly laid eggs and afternoons were spent exploring the neighborhood with Lola. Diana and Tom are generous, kind, and thoughtful hosts and I regret that we had such a short time to meet in person. PS, Brenham is a little jewel of small town Texas, near enough to College Station for "big city" amenities.

Thanks Diana and Tom for letting me stay in their house again and enjoy the charming small city and it’s surroundings. Hyperion well kept house and adorable animals give me the peace I truly enjoy once in a while. The neighborhood is friendly and lovely. I like to walk by pasture to see donkeys and cows. I hope they let me stay there again.

Diana and Tom are generous and considerate hosts. When they learned that our granddaughter's grad party was sheduled for the day of their departure, they insisted we stay on for the celebrations and drive to Brenham the day after. We gladly accepted after they explained that Opal and Gigi are quite independent and can stay alone for two days without lacking anything. Opal lives on the patio and has free access to the fenced in garden. Gigi stays in the garage when no humans are around. Both pets have automated feeders. We received a very friendly welcome from Opal, while Gigi took off for a couple hours before she checked us out. By day two she would not leave Chris' lap. Opal and Gigi get along just fine. Although they both mainly spend their days on the patio, they pretty much ignore each other. Both of them love their treats and cuddles. Opal is one of the quietest dogs we've ever met. Never once did we hear her utter a sound. She was doing great on our walks. You can tell she's had good training. Occacionally a neighbor would come by with his dog for the dogs to play and to have a chat with us. This is a very friendly community where everyone would greet you in passing by. The house is spacious and clean, decorated with birds in every fashion. The guest bedroom has a comfortable double bed and its own bathroom next door. There is a large patio with outdoor kitchen and 'Diana's Bloomers'. We enjoyed sitting on the patio and watching the birds feeding off a string of colorful birdfeeders. There are mainly cardinals, but we also spotted a few woodpeckers and bluejays in the trees, and of course hummingbirds and a variety of butterflies. Also fun to watch the squirrels running up and down the trees and picking the leftovers from the bird feeders, sometimes even trying to sit on a feeder. The chickens, having a free run of the property during daytime, enjoy the birds' leftovers as well (and we enjoyed their eggs). It's a pretty peaceful place with the property being located in a green neighborhood called 'Live Oak Acres'. There are indeed many magnificent live oaks in the neighborhood. We especially enjoyed the song of the cicadas at night. Diana and Tom clearly are nature lovers and environmentally conscious. They certainly have integrated all those small things we can do to save our planet in their daily routine. You can also tell that they are housesitters themselves by small things like labelled light switches, detailed explanations and photos of remotes, an extensive welcome guide, videos of the rainwater and the solar power systems, bug spray on the patio, a welcoming touch to their kitchen, food and drinks in the fridge as well as a welcome gift. Communication was excellent, they even sent us photos from their sightseeing trips. In conclusion, this was one of the easiest sits we've ever done. We truly enjoyed their little paradise and wholeheartedly recommend this sit. Be warned, though. No matter how brief your stay, you'll miss Opal even before you step out of the door. Thank you, Diana and Tom, for your hospitality. We are very sorry we did not meet you in person. All the best to you, Marion and Chris

Tom and Diana were great hosts and I thank them for allowing us to stay in their home. Opal and Gigi are very smart and loving pets. Will definitely miss our walks with Opal. Taking care of the chickens was easier than I thought and Tom and Diana made sure that all questions were answered and always stayed in touch no matter what. This is my second time sitting Diana and Tom’s house. They are as thoughtful as they were last time and kind. I enjoyed the new chicks! They are so energetic and playful. It was the beginning of hummingbird migration season. I watched swarm of hummingbirds by the window. Opal is calm and loving. Gigi enjoyed treats and some petting. I would love to go back in different seasons.

Tom and Diana's welcome guide is top-notch. Every detail is spelled out. In these instructions, you can sense their kindness. I did not have the pleasure to meet with them in person, but I am sure they are as kind as their writings are. I met their brother-in-law who lives nearby, and he was also very kind. Opal is a super sweet dog and is well-trained to walk on my left side at my pace. She enjoyed every attention we gave. Gigi is also a sweet cat who loves to sit on our laps. She loves to sit on the outdoor kitchen counter and sunbathe. Chickens are entertaining but automatic. They come up to me and ask for scratches. Go back to their coops in the evening. I enjoyed collecting their green eggs every day. All of them are extremely well-mannered. The neighborhood is a lovely quiet place. Walking Opal was a pleasurable daily routine. I highly recommend the sit and would love to go back

Tom and Diana were so kind and welcoming. We truly enjoyed our time with Opal, Gigi, Laverne, Shirley, and the other 3 chickens. Opal is such a well behaved and loving pittie! Such a delight to walk, and your best friend out on the porch. I could swear she smiles at you when she sees you. Gigi is friendly, and can be a lap kitty on her terms. The chickens are a hoot to watch. Tom and Diana were so easy to reach when we had any questions. It was seamless even though we had a six hour time difference between us. We are so thankful for this family, and for Tom and Diana trusting us with their pets and home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tom and Diana's wonderful home. It is set in a beautiful area and had everything you could want or need. Their pets are awesome. Opal is the sweetest dog you will ever meet. She loves people and just wants to be near you. She loves going for walks and the neighborhood is so perfect for short or long beautiful walks. Gigi and Belle are sweet kitties and were easy going and love to be petted. Laverne and Shirley, the chickens,, were so cute when you walk toward the coop and shake the treat jar, they come running. Tom and Diana had dinner for me on my first day and were so kind and generous. Randy and I would come back anytime in the future if they needed us. The bed was very comfortable too. Diana's garden was easy to water and great to have fresh tomatoes and cucumbers.

Emily and I really enjoyed our time at Tom and Diana’s. Their house was really nice and had everything we could have asked for. We especially loved their backyard with the big patio. Opal is a great dog. She’s very well behaved and very loving. She is great on a leash and was always by our side while we were hanging out on the patio in the evenings. Gigi and Belle kept to themselves initially, but after a couple days, they became very affectionate. They were easy to care for and were always friendly to us. The chickens, Laverne and Shirley, have a great coup that made collecting eggs and feeding them simple. They really like their chicken treats, and they’ll love you the minute you give those to them. We would absolutely recommend this house sit to anyone who wants to spend some time away from the city in a great house with a variety of pets. The neighbors were very friendly and helpful. It seemed like every other time we took Opal on a walk, we had a friendly, fun conversation with a neighbor. It was really fun to step into Tom and Diana’s life for a couple of weeks.

I did not get to meet Tom & Diana but their welcome guide was very detailed and I had no problems following the routine for their pets. Their home is clean and very comfortable and I really enjoyed walking Opal in their neighbourhood. A great country setting but only a few miles from shopping and restaurants. I recommend this sit for anyone in the future.
