About this assignment

I am looking for someone who loves dogs, will open and shut my birds at night. I need a responsible person who enjoys the countryside, walking and will respect my home.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

They will need to walk my dogs, feed them and cosy up with them on the sofa! My assorted hens, bantams, guinea fowl and peacocks need feeding when they are let out in the morning and feeding in the evening then shut up at night safe from foxes. I would be grateful if they person could water my house plants, greenhouse and poly tunnel.

What are the good features of the property and location

My home is a Georgian Manor House with extensive gardens surrounded by grassland over looking a spring fed lake. There is a diving board by the lake and it’s crystal clear water, lovely for swimming. The rooms are large and bright. The bedrooms all have large double beds, two have ensuite. There is a large bathroom with a power shower and a big free standing bath. Central heating and open fires.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

A potential house sitter has to be a country person who can enjoy the peace and quiet of my home. They need to be active and self sufficent. I have a sister who lives nearby who can advise if there is a problem but she cares for an invalided husband. I have a tenant in a cottage nearby who is there in emergencies.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

We loved staying here

We loved staying at Verity’s beautiful home - the peace and quiet, the idyllic walks, not to mention Fennel and Nutmeg! 2 very sweet dogs. Verity left detailed instructions for us, gave us a lovely tour of the house and surrounding areas and communication was great throughout. It was an absolute pleasure to look after her animals and home.

Peace and tranquillity in a lovely place

Driving into Verity place is like going into a fairytale house. We were there in the cold January, snow and mist yet nothing obscure the beautiful scenery. The house itself is beautiful, comfortable and absolutely cozy. We manage to warm ourselves with central heating, fireplace and even heated blankets. We can also said the acoustic in the house are amazing and my husband can get enough of practicing his cello while looking over the beautiful sunset on the lake. WiFi can be spotty (we had stormy weather) but we basically work in kitchen and dining room without any issue at all. Just a few steps out the house, we are stepping into field and walking among the sheep. Fennel and Nutmeg are both well trained dogs and Verity tips also help us to keep them in check. They really are wonderful sweet dogs, Fennel will even wait for you to catch a breathe if you lagging behind. Nutmeg is always playful and love showing who is the boss to the cows and sheep. My initial concern was for the chickens and Guinea fowls but turn out they were easy as well. The rooster will be the first to be your friend, then a few hens got friendly with us too. In a day or two, the chicken basically just go inside their house themselves. Verity’s sister Bridget was our lifesaver on the first day but she explained everything so well even a city girl like me could managed. We really enjoy the stay in Verity’s place. We also manage to explored the towns nearby, all within short drive, the ruins, the busy cafes and bars! We feel so blessed to be able to experience this peace and tranquillity in a lovely place.

I so enjoyed staying in this beautiful place

I so enjoyed staying on this beautiful piece of land and in the wonderful manor home. The animals were such gorgeous companions, even the guinea fowl and their funny ways! I shed a tear saying goodbye to Cinnamon and Nutmeg. Would very happily return, and thank you Verity for your warmth and generous hospitality.

Lovely

We minded Verity's place during the winter. The house was grand, spacious and warm with a large wood burner and many books to read. Fennel and Nutmeg were friendly. gentle and sweet. They were keen to accompany me on many long walks over the rolling hills and along the lake side. The poultry were easy enough to look after and provided us with plenty of free range eggs. Verity is a lovely, interesting person who was easy to talk to and who made us both feel very welcome and at home.
