Lovely cottage on the Hamakua Hawaiian Coast. Two small pups need human love

About this assignment

Someone who loves and understands dogs and will spend time with them. They need grooming and feeding of course and a gentle quiet voice. The cat is an indoor/outdoor cat who uses the dog door. She doesn’t travel far and mostly comes in for feeding or to escape the rain.
Be respectful of our home, keep it clean and remove garbage promptly (Tropics do attract bugs). We have a transfer station close by where you can take the trash. No smoking and no drinking preferred. Be respectful of our neighbors

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feed pets morning and night. Brush dogs every day to keep Matt’s away. Wash their eyes with water and a clean cloth. Pick up pet waste in yard and if the tiny terror pees in the house, you’d need to clean that up too. She has a pee pad but when stressed or mad at us, she has “accidents”. Working on it. We got her a year ago from the breeder she worked for. Haha!

What are the good features of the property and location

We are on the gorgeous, rural and quiet Hamakua Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii. It’s the rain forest so very lush with waterfalls and our own beach park with a spectacular show of waves and rock. You can also swim there. Many waterfalls around, Hilo Town is one of Hawaii’s oldest and is 20 miles away. The volcano erupts every ten days at the National Park. It’s an hour drive or less. Many, many beach parks in Hilo. Kona has the best beach in North American, Hapuna Beach. It’s about an hour in the other direction.
House has two bedrooms, one and 1/2 baths, an updated kitchen with all the amenities, a gazebo outside, a lanai inside, laundry room, carport. We are on 1/2 acres with many, many fruit trees and tropical plants. Across from us is a cliff with a gulch and river. Behind is an open area. We are on the side of dormant Mauna Loa (a volcano) so up from us are a few houses then open space and pastures. Home is full of antiques and we were careful to retain the plantation era vibe. It’s a single wall structure with no interior walls so no HVAC. Wide open windows let in the trade winds and ceiling fans distribute the sea air. We are high above the ocean on a cliff. Our view is obscured by large trees but you can still get a peek-a-boo look or just walk a few feet.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We are rural. No stores or nightclubs, bars or restaurants. Well there is one and it’s amazing and overlooks the ocean! Hilo has everything you need and it’s about 30 minutes away.
Skylar, our 6pd Biewer Terrier has recently reverted in her house breaking and she wears a diaper most times until we get this figured out. She obedient and loving otherwise
Ziggy is a 20 pd Shih Tzu and the love of my life. He’s lively and sweet and responds to positive reinforcement best. He goes to school sometimes to help out the SPED kids.
Koko the cat is a good cat. She spars with Ziggy sometimes but no one gets hurt. It’s in fun.
