I traveled extensively before I settled down in Berlin, on student exchanges as well as using platforms like WorkAway and Couch Surfing, and always having great experiences with flexible, open-minded and respectful people. That's what I hope to offer here with Kinu and my apartment, and what we hope to find in the sitters that help us out! We're THS refugees fleeing from venture capitalism, so please have some patience while our 9 very positive reviews are being transferred!
We're looking for someone confident with dogs, someone who likes being outdoors, someone self-sufficient and with consistent communication skills!
You're only taking care of Kinu and occasionally watering house plants!
Kinu's a very active dog and needs a sitter willing to be similarly active. She needs quite a bit of commitment in terms of exercise and mental stimulation, so this sit is not for someone whose primary goal is to see the city alone all day and night, rather maybe for someone working from home who likes to be outside, or doesn't mind the active lifestyle of a border collie-esque pup. That said - Berlin is extremely dog friendly, so you can take her with you if you're going out to a restaurant, cafe, on the subway, and around town touristing.
Kinu sleeps on her bed or in her crate and wakes up around 8.
We have a routine, but we don't expect you follow it exactly, especially if you're in Berlin as a tourist. We do expect Kinu to have gotten plenty of exercise most days.
Normally, we get up, feed her, take her out for a quick 15 mins pee walk, then settle in for work, and she plays with her toys by herself. Around noon we take her for another walk, usually a bit longer, running in the park or in the house courtyard, we try to go for at least half an hour.
Around 5, we take her for the evening walk, although with work calls this varies between 4 and 6:30. This walk is at least 45 mins, in the park or courtyard or at the least, do a walk with lots of commands to tire her out mentally. Kinu gets dinner whenever you do, doesn't seem to care if it's late or early. She goes out to pee for the last time around 8, although she can wait later, we just prefer to keep our evenings for relaxing and not late dog walks. She will whine when she needs to go out if you wait too long.
It's great if you can take her with you for any and all of your activities, we take her on public transit and to public places all the time and although it adds a level of focus and patience to your evening, it's fabulous brain exercise for her and you'll notice the difference in how calm she is at home. Kinu's in the habit of sleeping during the work day so should pose no issue there for home office workers.
She can be left alone at home for up to 4ish hours provided that she's been let out to pee before, and she gets enough exercise at other times of the day.
We ask that sitters let her truly run at least once a day if possible (with work, sometimes it's more like every 2 days...). This means letting her off leash in the fenced dog park, forest paths, or putting her on the 15 meter-long leash and letting her run around any non-fenced grassy area. Quick walks up and down the street are just not sufficient for her breed.
Our apartment is 87m, with a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room, and office/spare guest room. It is on the 4nd floor without an elevator. You'll have full access to the apartment when you stay, and we'll prepare the bedroom for you. For stays where the dates might not be perfect, you're welcome to come a day early or leave a day late - the office has a very comfortable guest couch/bed.
The location is perfectly situated within the city -- the U5 and Sbahn Lichtenberg is about a 10 minute walk from the apartment, and from there, you reach the center of the city within 20 mins. Dog parks are a 20 mins walk or bus ride away. The trendy district of Friedrichshain is 10/15 mins on the Ubahn, and the Rummelsberg Bucht and Treptower park are within dog-walking distance. It's super quiet and safe in the neighborhood, our neighbors also have dogs and the area in generally is very comfortable.
The house is fully equipped with extra towels, dishes, kitchen appliances, everything you need to have a comfortable stay. Ollie and I both typically work from home, so it is fully outfitted with two desk spaces and monitors that you are welcome to use, as well as TV that gets public channels and can access netflix /youtube / etc etc, as well as connecting your computer to for whatever else.
Kinu is well trained (see reviews) but giving her enough exercise and climbing up to our 4th floor apartment every day isn't for the weak - it's easier for a couple but we've certainly had great solo sitters as well. Ollie and I are decently flexible pet owners, we want to set you up for success and we'll ask for clear communication and a video call introduction, but we trust that whoever we find to sit will enjoy their time in Berlin and keep Kinu safe above all else.
Yes
Restrictions: After discussion - preference for someone without pets, but Kinu is most often good with other dogs so we could make it work.

We had a wonderful time in Berlin
We had a wonderful time in Berlin over Christmas looking after Kinu for Sarah & Ollie. Sarah & Ollie's communication with us prior and during the sit were excellent, which made looking after Kinu a hassle free experience. Kinu is an incredibly lovely dog with plenty of personality and energy to match. She is very well trained, which make looking after her a delight. The house was as described and a very welcoming place to spend time in. We had a lovely time in Berlin and would gladly come back again to see Kinu, Sarah & Ollie.

A great experience
We had an amazing time with Kinu in Sarah and Ollie's home. Kinu is a really sweet dog with a lot of energy and it was fun to take her with us on different little adventures in Berlin. She's really active and we enjoyed taking her for runs and to the dog park, and even though she might get super excited when out and about, I was also really impressed by her patience (especially on public transport) when we dragged her around to see friends in town and even to a gallery. Or maybe she's just well trained! In any case it was fun. Sarah and Ollie's apartment is nice and in a quiet area with easy access to the city, and they left really clear instructions so we weren't confused about anything. They were also super friendly and flexible with our travel arrangements and so on. Thanks, also, for leaving us the weekly public transport ticket! All in all we had a great experience and miss Kinu already!

I had a wonderful time
I had a wonderful time staying in Berlin with Kinu! She is a really sweet dog with a great personality. We went on plenty of adventures; dog parks, public transport, and crowded public places, and she loved it all! She does get excitable in new places but calms down with just a bit of time and patience. She is very sweet and cuddly at night (but will get off the bed if asked to, she’s quite well trained) and she stayed very calm and quiet when inside the apartment with me. Sarah and Ollie are really kind people, and easy to communicate with. They made my arrival smooth and uncomplicated which I appreciated greatly after a long travel day. Their apartment is clean, cool, and very spacious. The neighbourhood is quiet and safe, and it’s very close to the train station and multiple bus stops, so getting around the city was very convenient. Overall I found Kinu to be an excellent companion for my Berlin adventures and I’d care for her again in a heartbeat!

Kinu is an absolutely wonderful dog
Kinu is an absolutely wonderful dog – full of energy, incredibly smart, and very affectionate. She quickly became my little shadow around the house, always wanting to be close. I especially loved practicing tricks with her – she picks things up so quickly and clearly enjoys the interaction. She’s the perfect companion for someone who enjoys being active and spending time with a bright dog. The best part: she really loves to cuddle and sleep on the bed with you after a long day. Sarah and Ollie were kind, thoughtful, and always available if I had any questions. They left very clear instructions written down which was really helpful. They even left me a public transport ticket, which was such a kind and generous gesture! Their apartment is cozy (it has a lovely skylight!), well-equipped, and located in a peaceful neighborhood in the east of Berlin, just a short walk from a train station – very convenient for getting around. This was a truly lovely experience. Thank you, Sarah and Ollie, for trusting me with your home and your sweet Kinu! Hope to see you all again sometime!

A memorable experience
I had the pleasure of house sitting for Sarah and taking care of Kinu, it was a great experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and at ease. Sarah was friendly, clear with instructions, and took the time to give me all the information I needed to care for their home and their loveable dog, Kinu. Sarah was easy to get in touch with if I had any questions or problems. The apartment was bright, well-kept, and located in a quiet part of Berlin, close to a train station which made exploring the city, and taking Kinu on adventures a breeze. The home itself was comfortable and has a well-equipped kitchen with everything I needed. As for Kino, they were an absolute joy to care for. Kinu has a great energy, is playful , and enjoys spending time with you. We enjoyed some nice walks around the city, playing at various dog parks and cozy times at home. I had no trouble following the routines they had in place, and it was clear that Kinu was well-loved and well-cared-for. Overall, this was a memorable experience. I’d gladly return again in the future, and I highly recommend them to any fellow sitters.

This sit was amazing
This sit was amazing! I didn't get to meet Sarah and Ollie in person, but we did have a video chat and they were super lovely! Sarah prepared a document with all the info we needed! It was super helpful! The handover was via a friend and everything was perfectly organized. The apartment was lovely and we felt very welcome! (I stayed with my teenage son.) As the place was close to a station in Berlin, it was super easy to get around, so very convenient. But the best was of course KINU! She is such a lovely dog with an awesome personality! Yes, this is not a sit for someone who likes to sleep in or do lots of sightseeing. But it's perfect for an active person, who loves being outside and enjoys the company of a really sweet and super smart dog! We went on hikes, went to the dog park, practiced tricks (so fun!!!), played fetch ... Kinu is full of energy - even after 17km she would have kept going! - but also listens to commands and is well behaved! I enjoyed her company so much! I can honestly say I miss her! Thanks so much Sarah and Ollie for such a lovely experience! Wouldn't think twice to sit again!

Super nice and flexible
Sarah was super nice and flexible. Kinu was very sweet. She did have that chaotic puppy energy at times but it was easily manageable. Overall, had good time in Berlin with Kinu!
