About this assignment

I’m looking for someone to take care of my dog Bertie but also take care of my home whilst I’m away.
Bertie needs that love & attention and wouldn’t do well in a kennel environment so house sitting is perfect for his needs

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Bertie is a sweet little baby who was rescued in April 2025. He has some ongoing health issues that require a bit of extra care, but he’s doing incredibly well and thriving in his new routine.

Bertie has colitis (inflammatory bowel disease), which is managed entirely through a strict diet, supplements & medication. He absolutely cannot eat anything outside of his prescribed diet, so vigilance on walks and in public places is essential.

He’s very food-motivated and will try to eat things off the floor (especially in cafes and pubs, which he loves), but he’s improving with the “leave it” command.

He can also be slightly reactive to other dogs, something I’m working on with a dog trainer & he’s doing so well.

Important Nighttime Note:
Bertie will sometimes need to get up during the night to go to the bathroom, he sleeps through the night regularly, but does sometimes decide that 5am is the perfect time to pee. You’ll need to get up with him and let him outside into the back garden, he will pee then run back up to bed but this is a crucial part of caring for him. I’ve worked hard on training to get him to pee before bed, but at this stage, nighttime toilet breaks are part of the package. If you’re applying to sit for Bertie, this must be something you’re comfortable with and committed to doing.

Bertie is a very affectionate dog and will want to sleep in bed with you—this is non-negotiable. He needs that closeness and comfort, it’s his bed & you’re just sharing it.

Other things to know:
• Bertie has zero recall, so he must be kept on a lead at all times.
• Harness time is a bit of a game—he prefers clip-on harnesses and doesn’t like things going over his head. I recommend putting a few bits of kibble on the sofa, clipping the front of the harness around his neck first, then securing the back.
• He’s loving, funny, and needs someone who will be patient, gentle, and understanding, he loves to be fussed but on his own terms.

Bertie is a joy to be around and deserves someone who will treat him like the special little soul he is.

What are the good features of the property and location

I’m 20 minutes walk from the beach, 10 minutes walk from the train station & big Tesco!
20 minutes to to the local park & 15 minutes walk to town.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Bertie will sometimes get up at night to go to the bathroom. This is a very important part of his care as it’s a non negotiable as part of the house sit I’m afraid.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
