About this assignment

Our ideal house sitter is someone who enjoys cats and understands cat social dynamics in a multi cat household and who also enjoys the outdoors. We have four backyard chickens and a large yard with a good sized vegetable garden. We are pretty laid back people, but seek someone who will leave our home in as good or better condition than they found it and enjoy it while they are here!

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We try to keep daily responsibilities to a minimum.
Yuki (one of our cats) gets a daily anti anxiety medication with a pill popper. Otherwise, collecting eggs and making sure all four hens make it back to the coop each night is the only other daily chore. Then it is mainly giving our cats some attention, and trying to make sure pumpkin is inside at night (she is the beta cat and sometimes Yuki can get territorial with her so we try to make sure she feels the house is a safe space for her).

The cat's food and water and the chicken's food and water are all set up in a way that they don't need daily attention. Just check every couple of days and refill as needed. The cat's litter box should be scooped every couple of days too, but since both cats are indoor/outdoor cats they don't use it too often.

The garden is on a drip irrigation system that has a schedule so it shouldn't need watering. If you are here for a while we may ask you to mow just the front lawn to seep our neighbors happy. Otherwise you are welcome to enjoy the veggies from our garden and the eggs. We also have shiitake mushroom logs and honey bees. The honey bees shouldn't need any care while you are here but if you are allergic to bees this may not be the best sit for you.

What are the good features of the property and location

We love our little neighborhood of San Souci in greenville, SC! We are about a mile and a half from the swamp rabbit bike trail, a wonderful multi use 30 plus mile greenway that connects to downtown greenville, travelers rest, and many other parks. You can bike from our house through the neighborhood to the trail and this is one of our favorite things to do. We are also only a 10 minute drive to Paris mountain state park, downtown greenville, and downtown travelers rest, so it is easy to explore all these areas. Asheville and the mountains and many more hikes are within an hours drive too. Groceries, and everything you need is also super convenient and close by (less than 5 minute drive).

We love our home, which is one of the larger lots in the neighborhood. It is a comfortable older home, all one story, 3 bedroom 1 bath home. The bedroom pictured is the one we use as our guest room and also doubles as my husband's office when we are home, and this is where we would ask you to sleep. San Souci itself is a lovely, diverse neighborhood, and one that is considered "in transition." It has a strong sense of community and neighbors tend to know each other. There is a community garden in the neighborhood that has monthly garden concerts in the warm months.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You should be comfortable giving a cat a daily pill with a pill popper. Also, please note that there are honeybees on the property. Also know that we have a young child (toddler) so our house has some of the toys, etc. that go along with having a young kid. Otherwise, if you want to explore greenville some we think our home is a great base from which to do this!

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
