Two cats: Brenny and Windy. Brenny is a small, friendly tortoiseshell you is skittish but may settle into your lap. Windy is an acquired taste. He doesn't love humans, but he does like to play with toys.

I am taking a summer seasonal position that will have me away from home from May 11th, 2026- August 18, 2026. I am looking for someone interested in staying for the entirety of this period. I am looking for someone who likes cats (though my cats are not overly cuddly/friendly) and will reliably take care of food/water/litter box. They don't need constant company, so you will have plenty of time to explore this magnificent area. I am a travel writer on the side, and I am happy to give any visitor advice on what to see and do while you are here.
My neighborhood has many children who play/ride bikes in the street. I need a responsible driver who will drive slowly in the neighborhood and be mindful when backing out of the driveway. Please check with me before bringing anyone else into the house.
You will have access to: a fully-stocked kitchen, a washer/dryer, central AC, a screened porch, linens/towels, a fenced backyard, a carport, free WiFi, good cellular, and clean municipal water.
Other perks: Quiet neighbors, good medical care within ten minutes (walk-in clinics, hospital, pharmacy), allergen+ filters in AC, water filter installed on kitchen tap, access to any books in house you'd like to read. I can set the WiiU up for you if you'd like it.
My house sitter will need to: provide the cats with food twice a day and keep the water bowl filled; clean the litter box daily or every two days; water the raspberry bush and maybe the potted lemon tree if I don't bring it; notify me if anything is wrong with the cats or the house; regular check-ins about house/cat status. There is one indoor Ring camera in the area where the cats are fed.
I live in the town of Slidell, Louisiana on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain about 45 minutes from New Orleans.
To make the most benefit of this location, you'd want a car. New Orleans (the Big Easy- known for its food, music, and European architecture, with world-class museums) is just a quick trip away. New Orleans, known as an exceptional city for foodies, has an annual tradition called COOLinary, where restaurants have amazing deals during the month of August. Other can't-miss New Orleans sites include the French Quarter, Frenchman Street (lots of live jazz music), the National World War II Museum, the Audubon Zoo, City Park, and the Steamboat Natchez.
Louisiana is a tropical swamp environment, and within thirty minutes of my house are great opportunities to experience nature, including Fountainbleu State Park (20 minutes away with camping, trails, and a beachfront). A little further (less than an hour) but worth the drive are Jean Lafitte National Park near New Orleans and Bogue Chitto State Park north of my house.
The Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain is home to several charming cities within a 30 minute drive, including Abita Springs, Covington, and Mandeville. You will also be within 20 minutes of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where you can visit beaches and the resort town of Biloxi as well as Stennis Space Center's visitor center, a NASA museum.
-Car-dependent area.
-Summers in Louisiana are hot and humid. The house has central AC.
-I welcome visitors of any identity/background and the area is very safe, but outside of New Orleans, people can still occasionally have an outdated mindset.
Yes
Restrictions: My cats are afraid of dogs, but we may be able to work something out; talk to me first. Likewise for another cat.
