We are looking for a responsible, practical, mature, friendly, pet-loving person/couple to care for our comfortable, well-equipped, solar-powered house and property and our friendly lovable black labrador retriever dog, Meg. You must love nature and be used to living in a rural rustic environment. The house is 100% solar powered, and we have wood burning fireplaces which you can choose to use or not.
The most important things to us are that Meg feels loved and secure and that our home is enjoyed and cared for responsibly. Caring for the home will include shoveling snow from the walkways & cleaning snow off the solar panels in winter, and monitoring the solar system/ backup generator. We are on a private road, shared with neighbours (road plowing in winter will be arranged). Indoor plants also need to be watered. In gardening seasons, there may be some light garden maintenance.
We live in privacy on the banks of the Burnt River on a waterfalls which runs all year round, so the sound of running water will lull you to sleep! When the season permits, kayaks and canoes are available to paddle the beautiful river. Walking Meg allows you to enjoy the 150 acres of woodlands that surround us, on private trails as well as the road. The basement is fully furnished with 2 bedrooms, a bath and kitchenette so it is possible for you to have visitors if arranged ahead of time. Our internet is Starlink and it is great, very fast. There is a woodshed full of dry wood, and there's nothing like watching Netflix beside a warm and cozy fire on the big screen TV. On other nights, you can sit in the screened porch beside the woodstove and listen to the river while reading your book.
You must have practical skills, and be able to/willing to learn how to manage the readings of the solar system control panel. You should be comfortable living on your own in a more remote, rural setting (neighbours are 2km away). The main floor has everything you need on that level, including laundry bedroom, and two bathrooms. A car is essential, and the nearest basic grocery supplies are in Kinmount which is 10 minutes away by car.
No, sorry.
