Leonberger Love in Wine Country - Charlottesville, VA

About this assignment

We are looking for a responsible and caring animal lover to care for our gentle, loving Leonberger and 2 indoor cats during our upcoming, approximately one month long, trip to Europe. Applicant must have experience, be a non-smoker, and be willing to share some photos of our fur babies during your stay.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

If you are or have been a pet owner, you probably know that the only thing that makes a vacation almost unenjoyable is leaving those fuzzy family members behind! We mainly want someone to stay here that will love them, not just feed them.

Our dog is an 8 year old Leonberger. He doesn’t need or even like a lot of exercise - he just needs to be near others and loved. He eats twice a day (as do the cats).

Our 2 cats are cuddly and loving. They will love watching tv with you and won’t even judge you for what you watch. ;) There is a Litter Robot that will need occasional maintenance but otherwise eliminates scooping and cleaning litter boxes!

What are the good features of the property and location

Enjoy historic Charlottesville and all the neighboring wineries while staying in our 6 bedroom home that offers views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the surrounding nature. We live in a quiet and friendly neighborhood on a mountain, with hiking trails and a clubhouse/pool. We have high speed Wi-Fi, many workspaces, a theater room and small home gym.

We are located just 10 minutes from downtown Charlottesville, with a pedestrian mall full of cute shops and great dining. University of Virginia, Monticello, and many historic sites are just minutes away. There are over 40 wineries nearby on the Monticello Wine Trail as well as dozens of local breweries, orchards, and farms. There are beautiful hikes, and many local groups that get together for short walks in various locations nearby.

There are many shops and groceries just down the road, and Wegmans is only 15 minutes away.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We have an 8 year old Leonberger (otherwise known as “Lean-on-berger”). He is gentle and loves everyone, but his love is STRONG, literally. LOL. Applicant must be steady on their feet simply due to his size (mixed with a little clumsiness, haha). He eats twice a day and doesn’t need a lot of exercise - he just needs to be near others and loved. The breed is known for being calm, gentle, and a very loving family member.

Our cats are indoor only, and ensuring they stay in the house and remain safe is of utmost importance to us.
