About this assignment

A responsible, trustworthy individual or couple looking for an opportunity to explore northwest Florida's Gulf Coast for about two months while we travel. Someone who can be a good companion for our manx cat, and who appreciates a clean, well-maintained home and will help keep it that way.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

- Normal care, feeding, attention and occasional clean-up for an indoor cat.
- Routine house cleaning - maintain the house like you find it when you arrive.
- Plant watering. Plants on the screen porch and in the courtyard 2-3x per week.
- Sweep up the leaves in the courtyard occasionally.
- Monitor the automatic irrigation system to ensure that the lawn and the flower beds are getting watered.
- Collect mail and packages.
- We have contract yard care and pest control service, and you will need to make sure that the providers have access to the exterior of the property.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our house is a clean, renovated, easy-to-care-for 1940s era cottage with a private courtyard and a fully screened porch (aka "catio"), located in the historic Navy Point neighborhood. It's in a quiet, oak tree shaded location one block away from a 3-mile linear park along the shore of Bayou Grande. The park has a shaded walking path and excellent access to the water for swimming, boating, fishing, birdwatching, etc. You regularly see dolphins swimming in the bayou and the Blue Angels practicing in the skies above it. From our house you are only ten minutes from downtown Pensacola restaurants and entertainment venues. There are public and private tennis courts, pickleball courts, golf courses and marinas close by, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore is less than 30 minutes away. Because neither our home nor our cat requires constant attention, you will have plenty of time to recreate or simply relax in a very comfortable setting. We have bikes, kayaks and paddle boards that you can use.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

- The dates might be adjusted a couple days on either end. We can work with a prospective house sitter if there are scheduling constraints.
- This is a two month commitment. If you want to take an overnight trip we have neighbors who can fill in for a couple days.
- The dates fall in hurricane season - if you are new to Florida and unfamiliar with hurricane precautions, we suggest that you review information about hurricane preparedness.
- Smoking/vaping of any type is not allowed in the house or on the screen porch.
- Public transportation is limited in the area, so having your own reliable transportation is necessary.
