About this assignment
We are looking for responsible house/cat sitters who will look after our two cats and also look after our home. The sitters must have good communication and be reliable when it comes to making sure that the cats are healthy and alerting us if there are any issues with the house.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
We need care for Lino and Dash (photos attached), our 2 affectionate cats, both of whom are indoor cats because of coyote issues. Daily feedings and patrolling the litter box are required. Anyone considering a stay at our house for this time must be committed to the entire time period and must be able to perform the cat care every day until our return.
Housesitters must be mature, very responsible non-smokers and will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the house and notifying us immediately if any infrastructure issues arise that need to be addressed while we are away in addition to occasionally watering a few indoor and outdoor plants and retrieving our mail daily and notifying us if any mail needs immediate attention (rare). Note that we do maintain a weekly pool maintenance service as well as weekly gardeners so there is minimal exterior maintenance needed on the part of our house-sitters other than to unlock gates to give them access to our backyard on their service days (once weekly for the gardeners, once weekly for the pool man) and to keep a watchful eye and notify us of any issues.
What are the good features of the property and location
We are located in Pacific Palisades, one of the nicest neighborhoods in Los Angeles, near Santa Monica (just north of Santa Monica, just south of Malibu and just west of the Brentwood neighborhood) in a luxurious 1-story 4,500 sq. ft. home with pool in the Riviera section of Pacific Palisades, just minutes from the beach. Brentwood and Santa Monica stores are just a few minutes away with grocery stores, restaurants, shops, and almost anything else you might need while all of Los Angeles lies before you to explore within easy driving distance.
We have good WiFi, premium cable, a gourmet kitchen, washer/dryer, dishwasher, a/c and furnace, burglar alarm system and many other amenities.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Potential sitters must not accept the sit if there is any doubt about whether or not they will actually be able to follow through with this commitment. We will require identification and references as well as an understanding of who will be living at the house during this time period and how many people will be using the house. We will also need to meet with you in person or on Zoom or Facetime prior to this housesit to go over all the "moving parts" in our home so that you are able to operate everything properly. If you are coming from out of town, we need you to arrive a day or two prior to our departure to allow for a full day to thoroughly acquaint you with the house and cats. You are welcome to sleep here in our guest room and overlap with us prior to our departure.

Lino and Dash are dream kitties in a dream location!
If you have the opportunity to sit for Ellen and Bill, I’d recommend you seize the opportunity! They made us feel warm and welcome. Their cats — Lino and Dash — are adorable, and we couldn’t help but fall in love with them. Lino was so cute, smart, playful and curious. It was fun to make up games, pet him, and play with him and his toys to his heart’s content. I loved his soft fur, playful personality, meowing reciprocal conversations, and unique markings. Dash was also a sweetheart - a bit more reserved and calmer than Lino. They complemented each other very well. Dash loved making biscuits on our tummies in the family room as his daily ritual. Dash was the best purrer during long petting and biscuit-making sessions. Both cats are too cute for words.😽😻 Ellen and Bill are organized, and we appreciated their printed house-sitter calendar that told us what to do each day, as well as their house binder (which they sent a digital copy of ahead of time). Their generosity in offering us wines and a gift card to grocery shop at Trader Joe’s shortly after our arrival did not go unnoticed. Taking care of the cats and home was enjoyable, and the LA location was splendid! We loved walking around this particular neighborhood and going to local events, as well as appreciated being able to use their vehicle and bikes for local errands and day trips. Ellen and Bill had plenty of workspace for our work and video calls. WiFi was excellent enough that we didn’t even need cellular data when in their home. They prepped us beautifully on the front end and had plenty of suggestions throughout the sit on fun things to do, which they tailored to our interests. Having a house cleaner, gardener, and pool person to help was much appreciated and contributed to making this housesit an all-around success. We focused A LOT on the cats, which is what I loved most about this sit. For people who like hot tubs and pools, Ellen and Bill have that for you! They also have comfortable beds, a peaceful Catio (enclosed patio for cats and people), and a gorgeous enclosed garden and yard space, as well as did kind things, like treating us to a home cooked meal on the front and back end, which meant a lot to us. I’m missing their cats, as well as being in their well cared for family ranch home. With birds (like hummingbirds), squirrels, beautiful plants, flowers, trees, and friendly neighborhood vibes all around, what’s there not to like? Oh, and don’t forget the beach, cute shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, state historic park, biking paths, hiking trails, and more are all nearby! We’re grateful to have had this opportunity, and we hope Ellen and Bill keep us in mind for future opportunities with them and others they know.
