About this assignment
I tend to have quite a busy schedule, so I am always relieved when sitters are well-organized and accessible, yet respectful of my time. Sitters with previous experience living in Germany, or at least Europe, are preferred (recycling is a complex artform here and energy costs are very high), but I have two children in the area who can help if needed. And, of course, loving to play and cuddle with cats is an enourmous plus point.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Dot and Dash need to be fed wet food mornings and evenings. They can be left alone during the day (I have a cat flap and an automatic feeder), but they benefit from supervision in the evening. They like to play, and Dash can be rough with Dot if he gets bored or hungry.
What are the good features of the property and location
The house is close to public transportation that easily connects to the greater Heidelberg area. It is a 10-minute ride into the old city. We are also on the edge of a forest with many hiking paths. The castle is about a 90-minute walk. The house has 3 bedrooms, a large open-plan ground floor and a private garden.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
I have a house cleaner who comes every Wednesday and charges 55€ for excellent work. For sits of over a week, I am looking for someone who will continue to pay her while they are there as she depends on regular work to make ends meet.
Can I bring my own pets?

Es war fantastisch
Es war fantastisch mit dot und Dash die Zeit zu verbringen. Sie sind sehr goldig und pflegeleicht Dash ist oft unterwegs und hat sich sehr selten blicken lassen. Doch dot ist ein sehr liebenswerter Kater der sich gern verwöhnen lässt .Er hat chronischen schnupfen und hat sich gern mit mir unterhalten. Die Stadt hat sich mit der Komposition aus Wald fluss und Stadt den Ruf der schönsten Stadt der Welt errungen. Die Gastgeberin carolyn hat einen sehr schönes Haus, in der Küche mit neuesten Geräten hinterlassen und mir auch mir lebensmittel zur Verfügung gestellt .Das war sehr nett. Ich bin wirklich begeistert von dem was ich hier erlebt habe. Es war eine sehr schöne Atmosphäre in dem Haus und die Reinigungkraft war eine sehr angenehme Dame Dieser Platz ist großartig und die Anbindung an das öffentliche Netz ist sehr gut.

A warm, easygoing sit
I had a great time staying in Carolyn’s home and caring for her beautiful Bengal cats, Dot and Dash. Although we didn’t meet in person—Carolyn had already been away for a week—her son and his partner, who live nearby, welcomed me warmly, showed me around, and stayed in touch on the WhatsApp group Carolyn set up. Carolyn is relaxed and easygoing, and everything was there to feel comfortable in her home and settle into a rhythm with the cats. She was also happy with me having old friends over for dinner, which I appreciated very much. The house is in a great location—about 15 minutes by bike to the Altstadt and a short walk to the bus or S‑Bahn. The surrounding area is stunning for cycling, mountain biking, hiking, etc., the local gym is excellent, and the regular cleaners are lovely and very good at their job. Dot and Dash were the absolute highlight of the sit. They are wonderful animals with big personalities and I completely fell in love with them. Dot is a gentle, sweet little girl with a calm presence and a surprisingly playful streak. She had a cat‑flu flare‑up when I arrived, but with steam inhalations, chicken broth, and a cosy heat pad she immediately claimed as her personal spa suite, she improved steadily and became wonderfully bright and engaged. Dash is a big-hearted, expressive boy who thrives on affection and outdoor adventures. He comes from a stud background and can occasionally spray when unsettled or excited, so having a UV light and enzyme cleaner handy is a wise move. Once he settled in, he behaved like a reformed gentleman with a slightly mischievous past. He took to clicker training with great enthusiasm—partly for the mental stimulation, partly for the snacks—and with routine, reassurance, and affection he was super funny, affectionate, and incredibly engaging. It was a warm, easygoing sit with good communication and two truly special cats - thank you for an amazing experience.

A wonderful experience
We had a lovely experience housesitting for Carolyn. She was very friendly, and we had the chance to spend the night at her place before the sit began. Carolyn is very easygoing and trusts her sitters to be independent, which made the whole experience feel very relaxed for us. The stars of the sit were, of course the cats! Dash is the king of the house, he is very bossy and kept us very entertained. He is a bit less cuddly than Dottie but he often comes for snuggles. Dottie is incredibly sweet, so well behaved and a delightful company always at your lab. We really enjoyed our time with both of them and we miss them so much whilst writing this. The house itself is calm, spacious, and in a lovely location. The garden is beautiful and peaceful—perfect for enjoying a coffee or reading a book. The city of Heidelberg also felt like heaven. Shops are easily accessible, and Carolyn was kind enough to lend us a bike (we brought one of ours too), which made getting around even easier. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and we’d be happy to sit for Carolyn again anytime.

A wonderful sit
I had a wonderful sit with Carolyn. The locations is like a fairytale, actually one of my favorite places in Europe. About Dash and Dott, they had a pretty good behavior. Dash goes to play around and always come back to play, eat and nap. The other little one is mostly sleeping inside, but sometimes goes to the garden to take sun bath. In general the house had a lot of space and all the amenities you need.

Sitting Dash and Dot was a real pleasure
Sitting Dash and Dot was a real pleasure! Dottie is the sweet one, calm, patient, cuddly, affectionate ;) Dash is more of a retired rascal ;D .. He likes to sleep most of the time but in the evenings he sometimes chased Dottie around for a minute or two. But also Dash comes for affection. He wants to be seen, stroked and enjoys to be around us. No incidents at all. Everything was easy and chill ;) Carolyn is really nice and made our stay really pleasant and easy from the start. She provided detailed information and was reachable in case we had needed her. The house is a gem! Situated right next to a nice forest and beautiful landhouse style at the inside. All in all was really wonderful: Dash and Dot were sweet, easy to take care of and we enjoyed our time very much in Carolyns home! We definitely recommend doing the sit here and we’d be happy to come back! :)

I had a great time
Carolyn is a great host and gives you full confidence. Both Dotty & Dash are beautiful cats and fun to be with and very relaxed. Dash has the habit of strolling around the neighborhood but can be monitored with a tracking device and app. Schlierbach is very quiet but Heidelberg is only 15min away on bike. Carolyn was so nice for me to use her bike, which is a great bike with 24 gears. And you need those gears when you go on the other side of the Neckar river, to Ziegelhausen. There you find Hallenbad Kopfel, a great swimming pool and sauna....but you need some practise to climb the steep hills with the bike., nice workout! Fortunately bus 33 will take you there as well. All in all I had a great time looking after the spinning couple in a lovely house and environment.

I had a lovely stay at Carolyn’s. She was very caring, taking me to get some groceries before she left and making sure I was comfortable in her home. Her 2 Bengals were amazing cats, not really into cuddles but very aware of my presence. The house was close to the local train line if you wanted to check out Heidelberg and the forest behind for a stroll. I would recommend this sit.
