Relax on southern Vancouver Island and enjoy our home and little dog

About this assignment

Looking for non-smoking folk(s) who will appreciate our quiet semi-rural neighborhood, spend time in our neat and tidy house with our small dog, Stella, and look after our place while we travel.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Care for the dog (food, water and outside trips). Water the plants when needed, take the trash/recycling to the curb on pickup days. Clean debris off the deck after the wind blows and keep the place clean and tidy. If you want to see the wild birds, top up the wild bird food too.

What are the good features of the property and location

Nice roomy back yard, cozy front deck. Close to town, shopping, groceries etc. (5 minute drive/30 minute walk), yet it feels like you are out of town. Duncan is about half way between Victoria and Nanaimo, which makes both easily accessible for day trips.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Our place is at the top of a hill, a long city block up from the bottom. If you do not have your own transportation, there is a bus stop at the bottom of the street, but the bus service is infrequent. It is a 30 minute walk for groceries, but it is easier going down than coming back up. Our house has a basement entry with stairs up to the main level but there is a sloped path beside the house to avoid the stairs. Currently there is a stair lift for my mother to use when she comes visits.

Our bird will demand attention with squawks. Some people with hearing aids find this too loud. The bird also expects to have a daily fly around the house. This would be optional, but he will squawk his disappointment.

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes
Restrictions: The yard is not fenced, but there is a small enclosed dog area. No cats, please as we have cat allergies.
