About this assignment

We are looking for a kind, reliable and responsible house sitter who genuinely enjoys spending time with dogs. Ideally, you have some experience with dogs and feel comfortable with a dog who can be a little nervous around unfamiliar people at first.

A calm and patient personality is important, as Runa needs some time to build trust. Once she feels comfortable, she is a lovely and easy companion.

We would also appreciate someone who treats our home with care and is happy to keep in touch with us via WhatsApp while we are away.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The main responsibility is taking care of our dog Runa.

She needs two meals per day, some time in the garden and one or two walks each day, with at least around 30 minutes of walking in total. Longer walks are of course very welcome.

At first, Runa should always be walked on the lead. Once you know her well and feel confident with her, off-lead walks may also be possible in safe areas away from roads.

Apart from taking care of Runa, we would only ask you to:

water our indoor and outdoor plants
empty the mailbox

What are the good features of the property and location

We live in a spacious and comfortable house in a beautiful, peaceful area surrounded by nature. There are plenty of opportunities for walks and spending time outdoors.

Our house also has a sauna, which you are welcome to use during your stay.

We live right next to a horse farm. If you like horses, there may be opportunities to spend some time there and possibly get involved a little.

At the same time, Dresden and the surrounding area are within easy reach, so the house sit offers a nice combination of countryside, nature and opportunities for day trips.

Runa is able to stay at home alone for a few hours, so you will also have time to explore the area during your stay.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The most important thing to know is that Runa is a sensitive and somewhat nervous dog.

She may bark loudly when she sees unfamiliar people and she needs time to feel comfortable with someone new. It is therefore important that you are patient and do not pressure her into contact.

When visitors come to the house, Runa should be given space and should be allowed to approach people in her own time. If she feels cornered or pressured by a stranger, she can react defensively.

She is generally good with other dogs, but during dog encounters she should initially stay on the lead and contact with other dogs should only happen after checking with the other owner.

Loud noises such as thunderstorms, gunshots or fireworks can frighten her and may trigger her instinct to run away, so extra care is needed in these situations.

Because of this, we feel this house sit is best suited to someone who has some experience with dogs and is calm, patient and confident around them.
