About this assignment

The main responsibility is caring for our two dogs and two cats, including feeding, walks, playtime, cuddles and keeping their usual routines. We also ask that our home is kept tidy and secure.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The main responsibility will be caring for our two female Golden Retrievers, Daisy and Luna, and our two male cats.

The dogs are fed twice a day, in the morning and evening, and need two walks each day. They can be walked in the nearby fields, around the stables or in the forest. When we have more time, we usually take them into the forest for a longer walk. Daisy also loves swimming in the lake when the weather is warm enough!

For safety, **please do not let the dogs off the leash at any time**. Daisy in particular can be prone to running off and may chase deer, squirrels, cats, birds or other animals. We provide a 30-metre long lead, which gives her plenty of freedom to explore while keeping her safely under control. Other leash options are also available.

Luna is our older Golden Retriever and needs a little extra care and patience. She doesn’t walk as quickly as Daisy and can be a little unsteady, particularly when going up the stairs. She feels more secure when someone walks alongside her and gently supports her from behind if needed, simply by being there to help her feel steady and safe. Luna is also a little nervous about walking across uncovered floors and prefers to go from one carpeted area to another, so she may need some encouragement and patience in these situations.

The dogs eat dry food twice a day, with wet food occasionally. Everything they need will be provided.

Our two male cats are primarily indoor cats, although they occasionally like to go outside. They have access to their food at all times, so they can eat whenever they like. They also have a litter box in the bathroom, which they use when they don’t go outside.

The yard is available for the dogs whenever needed, including for a quick bathroom break during the night. If the dogs use the yard, we kindly ask that you pick up after them.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who will give all four of our pets plenty of care, attention, patience and companionship while we are away.

Our apartment is in a quiet and peaceful area of Schiffweiler, making it a lovely place to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life. The local supermarket is just a 5-minute walk away, and there is a beautiful forest and lake within walking distance, perfect for walks with the dogs. There are also nearby stables. Saarbrücken is easily accessible by train, taking around 20 minutes, so you can enjoy the tranquillity of the area while still having the city close by.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Please consider that this is a small, quiet town and would suit someone who enjoys peace, nature and a slower pace of life. It would be particularly well suited to someone working remotely or looking for a relaxing break.

Saarbrücken is only around 20 minutes away by train, so it’s easy to take a day trip into the city when you want more activity. There is also a CrossFit gym about a 20-minute walk from the apartment, as well as an indoor sports centre nearby offering handball and other activities.

Aside from these options, the area is very peaceful, with no busy nightlife or lots of entertainment. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet to relax, enjoy walks with the dogs and spend time with our pets, this could be a great fit.
