About this assignment

We are looking for a friendly and responsible person, couple, or small family who loves cats and would enjoy spending a week in our little town in Hokkaido. Our cats are very friendly and are used to children, so a family with a child is very welcome too. We hope you will enjoy our home and the local area while taking good care of our cats.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Your main responsibility is to look after our cats: feeding them, giving them fresh water, cleaning their litter boxes and of course giving them some attention and cuddles!

We also have a friendly 20kg mixed-breed dog, but looking after her is optional. She can stay with our friends while we are away. If you are a dog lover and would like to have her stay with you, please let us know! She loves walks and the beach is only 3 minutes away.

What are the good features of the property and location

We live in a cozy 40m² home in a small seaside town in Hokkaido. The beach is only a 3-minute walk away, and our local onsen (Japanese hot spring) is also just 3 minutes on foot.

The house has a double bed and a single bed, plus two foldable mattresses, so it is comfortable for 2–3 people. You are welcome to use our kitchen and washing machine.

The nearest train station is about a 20-minute walk away, although we recommend renting a car if you want to explore the area. In winter, Rusutsu Ski Resort is about a 35-minute drive away.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

One important thing to know is that our house does not have a bath, shower or hot running water. We use the local onsen for bathing. It is only a 3-minute walk away, open from 10am to 9pm, and costs ¥800 per visit. This is part of our normal life here, so please make sure you are comfortable with this before applying.

December is cold in Hokkaido! We use a kerosene fan heater on normal winter days and a wood-burning stove when it gets very cold. We will show you how to use everything.

We don't usually have much snow here in mid-December, so snow shoveling will probably not be necessary. If we do get some snow, there is a shovel available for clearing it.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.
