Cat sitter/s for a renovated house in the foothills of the White Mountains in Crete for some or all of 1 Dec 26 - 6 Feb 27

About this assignment

I'm looking for a single or couple cat lover who is/are responsible and reliable to look after my 6 cats, plus feed the outside stray cats daily for some or all of the period 1 December 2026 to 6 February 2027. The dates are slightly flexible. I am open to 2 shorter sits. No children, sorry.

My cats need food, water, love and company. The younger ones love being played with. Also care for any medical needs that may arise.

You do not need to be with them all day every day, but a happy medium of at home and out.

The outside cats need feeding every evening, fresh water, affection for the tamer ones, and an eye kept on their health.

I have a couple of plants that need watering.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

There are many stray cats and dogs here, and I have taken in 6 of them ranging from a kitten to mature adults who have free range inside and outside. They are generally healthy and need love, company and food!

I am also currently looking after another sick kitten, who I hope will be well enough to return outside, though she may end up staying with me.

Outside there are 15 ish cats who the local farmer feeds, and I supplementary feed them each evening, and keep an eye on their health. Some are very friendly and affectionate, others are more skittish.

No smoking indoors.

What are the good features of the property and location

My house (rented) is in a stunning location in a tiny farming village in the hills of Apokoronas, Chania, Crete. It is a traditional house that has been extended and modernised to a high standard.

There is a front patio, a large partially covered balcony, and a large garden that is not maintained. There is also an olive grove.

Opposite, there is a small church and a sheep pasture. You will often see the sheep in the fields with their tinkling bells, and sometimes on the road too.

Vryssess is a small town 25 minutes down the hill that has all the amenities you need except a bank, but there are ATMs. Chania town is a 40 minute drive or a bus. There are many gorgeous beaches within 15 - 20 minutes drive, and beautiful walking and hiking.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

The location is very rural and there are very few people living in the village. Vrysses is a 25 minute walk down the hill and a bit longer back up!

I have had previous house and pet sitters, and some have hired a car (in the winter season it is very reasonable and I can give recommendations), and some have walked and used buses from Vryssess.

There is wifi, but it is not very fast, 24 mbps on average. I teach online and it is fine for that. But if you need fast, very reliable wifi, this is not the place for you.

There are farm noises; cockerels, dogs, sheep, so bring ear plugs if you are noise sensitive! Other than that is is a peaceful rural idyll!

There are 3 security cameras around the outside of the house.

Heating and air conditioning are by combination units. Electricity is expensive here, so please be mindful of usage. I ask for a contribution over a certain amount per month. Water is also an issue here, though less so after the recent floods, so please be mindful of usage.
